Real characters and strong descriptions

It's interesting to see how characters evolve (and devolve?) throughout this series. Characters who were neutral are now evil; characters you thought were evil end up being good; characters who seemed pure from the beginning have sudden lapses and do some truly shocking things. There doesn't seemed to be a single stagnant character. Everyone is very real.
But with all the good character development, I think the best part of the book is probably the war. What the characters do during the war is what makes it most interesting, but even without that, it's deep stuff. The descriptions are at their best at the climax of the story, when there is disorder and destruction everywhere. And Emily's hope in the midst of all the pain is incredible.
It's a good one, and better than the first.

No change from Vol. 1

More of the same as Book 1. I got Book 2 to see if there was any deepening of the plot or more realism. Nothing changed. These two books could have been written as one volume and I am thinking volume 3 could have also been included as one substantial book. Marketing genius I guess. Not sure if I'll buy Book 3.

Really good book! I read this one fairly quickly too and I have downloaded the next one. I hope it is just as good.
