No ending...next installment tells their story after...

NO ENDING. This is just the first installment to tell you how the two characters meet. He is a wounded Army vet, lost his leg in the war, and he is on a journey to honor his fallen friend. Everything is against him. His stump is raw and not healing well. The rain has soaked all his clothes and has the terrain a muddy mess, etc. The deadly bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. just added to the depressing conditions. You really want a shower after this short story.
Then the heroine is a wealthy N.Y. heiress. More money than sense at times. She is in the jungle trying to perfect a cocoa bean to improve the chocolate for her family's chocolate empire. Her father thinks she is a flake and will never succeed. For a N.Y. gal she has a lot of savvy for surviving in the jungle. She had visited the plantation as a child but you would think that a manicured, pedicured socialite would be more lost than she was. She stays with 3 elderly nuns in the house that once was her family's. It is in pretty bad condition but they survive the elements. And there are some pretty bad ones. Snakes in the kitchen, bugs in her hair, just to name a couple. Oh for a can of Raid!!
But they meet and fall in love. She wants him to stay safe but he needs to make this journey. So, he leaves and she watches him disappear into the jungle with plans to meet 3 months later. and that is it. Read the next installment to see what happens. It was a good first part of a story. I just hate to be left hanging.

Look forward to the rest of the series

I loved this story - it pulled me from the first page! Once again, Melinda has created characters that seem like someone you've known your whole life (and since I don't actually know any chocolate heiresses - that's pretty impressive). Her way with words makes you feel like you are in the story with the characters - whether it's trekking through the jungle or tasting chocolate, you experience it along with them. I also love her sense of humor s in the book as well - romance and laughter go hand in hand. It's a great read and look forward to the rest of the series.

Gripping, Powerful and Captivating

Throw together a heiress and a solider and you have a amazing book, Tiffany (Tiff) is trying to find her way in life and also her way through a jungle all the while narrowly escaping snakes and making her way back to the nuns she is staying with.
Jackson (Jax) Hardaway has seen a lot of things in his life, many he wants to forget but he can't, coming to Ecuador was something he needed to do not just for himself but for someone who was with him in the army.
Tiff has no idea how to survive in Ecuador, but she is willing to do anything to prove to her father that she can run their family business, she just has to find the cocoa beans she needs to make it happen. When she runs into Jax, she can tell he is determined almost as if he is on a mission, after leaving him in the jungle she didn't expect him to end up passed on the her doorstep.
Jax takes quite a liking to Tiff, she doesn't treat him like the broken man he is but Tiff doesn't have the best relationship record, though could Jax be it for her, if only she could let go of her fear of relationships.
As soon as I finished reading The Wedding Promise, I thought, it can't end like this, with a cliffhanger. I then seen that it was the first book in a new series of novellas, so I did relax a bit but I am excited to read what happens next for both Jax and Tiff.
The Wedding Promise is a powerful, emotional story about two people finding their way in life and trying to sort out their fears and pasts at the same time. Another great story from Melinda Curtis, I just love reading her work so much.
If I had to sum this book up in three words, they would be Gripping, Powerful and Captivating.
