As a kidney recipient, I relate alot. Brilliant read

I am an 18 year old who has Chronic Renal Failure, in short my kidneys are incredibly lazy and do nothing at all. I had a kidney transplant in January 2005 from my lovely Mother. However, dispite looking after it and the best efforts of my medical team it rejected and know no longer works, so I am on dialysis 6 days a week, and am waiting impatiently to be placed on the transplant list (i was informed a year ago I was on it , so you can understand the frustration) However due to the nature of my first transplant, with it being a live donor, I don't know how I will react to the knowledge that someone will have to die for me to continue living. So after Marks' Twitter page came up on my Twitter timeline I found his book in his bio, and decided to buy it. Now I read alot and a few books definitely come under the quote of "read in a single sitting". I was hooked from the very first story about the successful heart and lung transplant. I really enjoyed that dispite the seriousness of the topic at hand there was humour in the writing as he delicatly approached subjects many are scared to talk of. Now as a football fan I can relate to a certain chapter even more than the others I relate to and have never given it much thought. While I'll never turn a kidney down, a Portsmouth fans kidney would be potentially a poisoned chalice, given I support Southampton because I too have experienced another topic covered in this book ; cellular memory. I won't go into detail as it will ruin the book, but I hope I don't end up in the home section of Fratton Park anytime soon!
A book which I suspect will be an eye opener to someone not in the transplant community and a book which I believe could be a great help to those in the transplant community if you find yourself wanting to hear someone else story. We transplantees are a remarkable bunch!
I've always just got on with my condition, I was born with it I know no other life ,and whenever the time comes for my third chance at life, I can only hope I go after life in the same fashion as Mark.

An introspective journey

This is the journey of one man who is trying to discover if he can sense the essence of his organ donor. It is very introspective and along the way he shares a handful of stories of organ donors who take on characteristics of their deceased donor. It is a book that is basically a personal soul search without any real discovery at the end, just deep introspection.
