It is only at the pianoforte with beautiful music flowing from her fingertips that Teresa Seton is happy. New to English society, she feels awkward and unsure of herself.
Only the attentions of her handsome neighbor can convince her that she is where she belongs—a stolen kiss proves that he means what he says. But the kiss is witnessed and the pair are forced to marry for propriety’s sake.
Once known as the “Merry Marquis”, Richard, the Marquis of Merrick, now lives the life of a recluse. Finding a beautiful stranger at his pianoforte strikes a chord within him, bringing back feelings he thought were lost with the passing of his wife. He is mesmerized by Teresa and her beautiful music, but can he convince her, and himself, that he can live and love again?
"...an enjoyable, heart-stirring read about doing what's noble and right—i.e., Richard's offer of marriage after he and Teresa are caught in a compromising situation—and rediscovering love after even the greatest of losses. Be sure to pick up a copy of Meredith Bond's latest. " RT Reviews

An endearing tale
By Nicole-Books N Pearls
This book was quite a joy to read. The story pulls you in at the beginning, when Richard, the Merry Marquis, returns home to find music being played in his house and he thinks it is the ghost of his deceased wife. It turns out, it is the niece of his neighbor, there to practice on the pianoforte. He continues to allow her to practice in his home, just for their attraction to grow and for them to be caught in a compromising position. I found myself wishing Richard would let go of his deceased wife's memory and willing him to move on with Teresa. I felt that the story flowed well and was easy to follow. The characters were likable. Teresa was easy to relate to, with her discomfort with societal functions. She had been sent to England for the season and to find a husband, and since she was not brought up in the ton, she is unsure how to act and often finding herself speaking inappropriately. Her resulting stammering and discomfort are endearing, and you find you want her to be herself, regardless of what her mother or the ton expect. I also loved her love of returning soldiers and wishing to help them. Richard is a little frustrating at times, but his love of children and his orphanage make him a man worthy of the lovely Teresa. I greatly enjoyed the story. It was engaging, well written, and I would recommend it to historical lovers. I would definitely read others in this series.
I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

A Winner for Regency Fans!
By Rosanne Licata
The Merry Marquis by Meredith Bond
© September 2014 by Meredith Bond
Overall: A good story. Equivalent to four stars on Amazon from me. .
Story: The first part of the story introduces us to a man (the Marquis) and a young woman (Teresa) who have good reasons for being alone and thinking –at first – they want to keep it that way. The typical marriage-of-convenience-becoming-the-real-thing plot is handled deftly and entertainingly by Ms. Bond. The characters are engaging, the plot is intriguing. I definitely had a desire to learn more about everything.
Cover: Fits the genre well. The lines of the artwork are clean and the entire cover speaks directly to the story.
Writing Style: Smooth, unforced, and nicely flowing prose.
Editing: Breaks between chapters, sections, and paragraphs were logical, well thought-out, and contributed to the smooth story flow.
Formatting: Pleasing to the eye, and free of errors that I could see.
Grammar: Appropriate to the genre.
Spelling: Error-free.
Punctuation: Error-free.
Word Usage: An effective mix of period dialogue and standard English otherwise. This made the story easy to read and understand.
My Kind of Read: Not really; Regency romances and I are not a match. I read this story because I was given it to read, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience a good example of this genre. I heartily recommend this book to fans of Regency romances!

They were trying to fool Society
By WindRider
Two people make their awkward way through Society, the "ton". Richard, the Marquis of Merrick is still grief stricken after the death of his wife and shy Teresa Seton, who is new to society, is uncomfortable with attention . The only time Teresa really seems to shine is when she is playing the pianoforte, something that Richard overhears and draws peace from. When Teresa is compromised by a kiss with Richard, they must marry and are now thrust into the very society neither really wants.
I really had a hard time with Teresa's mother, when she showed up in the story. Really didn't like her a whole lot; selfish, self absorbed, spoiled beauty. She constantly sabotaged her daughter and although Teresa knows this, she confides something personal to her mother, that could be used to hurt her. Right after her mother tried to seduce Richard.
Sorry, that I had a hard time believing. The rest of the story is about the two people who are really strangers, trying to form a life. They begin to become friends but they are soon fighting the attraction to make their marriage real. Richard is also busy fighting the guilt because he is drawn to Teresa and feels this is disloyal to the memory of his dead wife and even feels guilty if he has fun. Both are good people trying to overcome a fair amount of issues.
