Fabulous fun!

Well I've just finished the second book in the Tales from the Edge series and it was great to be back with the crew of the Bonnie Belle. Once again this floating Mercy ship is in space on a mission to bring comfort and relaxation to remote mining communities but this time a lone life support pod is found near an exploded space ship. The crew of the Belle rescue it and it's occupant Catherine Rodgers but there's a lot at stake and an unknown enemy is coming to make sure the job of keeping Catherine permanently quiet is finished and as soon as possible!
Sean Harrison has been through a lot and now spends his days working as a Courtesan onboard one of the Guilds ships. Oh he realises that not everyone understands the true benefit of what he does but he has no reason to feel ashamed and in point of fact the benefits of the type of therapy he brings to his female clients is something he is rightly proud of. As the Belles acting medic when a nearby ship explodes and it's sole survivor is rescued it's up to him to tend to her but Catherine is the sort of woman that gets under Sean's skin and it's been a long time since that happened ! Catherine has no reason to approve of the type of people onboard the Belle as her ex husband left her for a Courtesan but spending time with the crew enables her to really see that no matter what the job they are still just human beings trying to survive and achieve a better life. Catherine has vital information about a conspiracy that is costing lives and it's imperative she gets to the proper authorities but it's clear whoever wants her dead will keep trying which puts everyone in danger. Sean and Catherine may be attracted to each other but how could two such different people ever hope to have a future together ? Besides the danger that stalks Catherine is far from past and now it's up to the crew of the Bonnie Belle to make a stand!
I really enjoy these stories and it was such fun to catch up with these diverse and colourful characters. Last time the story focussed on a murder mystery whilst throwing in the romance between Sam and Daniel and it was lovely to catch up with them and so amusing as they still struggle to be discreet about their relationship. The author writes with such humour but it's not in your face no it's much more subtle and works really well. As for the romance here it was a delight to read about Sean who has previously seemed a little subdued and clearly as a slightly more mature Courtesan knows his time working is running out. The simple idea of pairing him up with a mature responsible woman such as Catherine opens up a world of possibilities. She has obviously thrown her energy into her career and it's high time she had some fun and who would know more about showing a girl a good time then the experienced Sean? I loved the way their relationship slowly built and thought it so amusing as Catherine constantly second guessed herself whilst the ever knowing Sean saw through all her machinations! Great story and I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Drawn together in darkness, Catherine and Sean find the beginning of something lasting but with a price on Catherine’s head, that beginning might be all they get in this thrilling sci-fi romance.

This steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of suspense, action and romance. The author captures the imagination with well written scenes and images that bring the story to life while the fascinating world ensures that the reader’s come back for more. The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning and the well orchestrated suspense and action adds lots of thrills to the story.

Catherine and Sean’s attraction to each other couldn’t be more inconvenient for them. Catherine doesn’t like mercy ships or the courtesans that work on them and Sean is one of those courtesans. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their relationship as they work through emotional issues with some interesting help from the rest of the crew. The crew’s loyalty and friendship for each other adds lots of depth to the story making them seem like a family and the reader feels as if they are right there with them on their adventures which makes them cheer, cry or fight along with them.

Spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the danger escalates through numerous attempts on Catherine’s life and the fascinating world and uniquely unconventional characters make for a refreshing change and add lots of their own special charm to each story. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the crew of the Bonnie Belle again and so far their conclusions are unique but and fit each couple perfectly and I can’t wait for their next adventure.

Read the first book in the series and immediately bought this one. The characters are great and just keep getting better as their personalities are fleshed out. Now, I can't wait for the next book.

Explore this expansive collection of tales

Russell James' imagination is as boundless as the universe he sets these stories in. The tales are greatly varied so that there is something in the volume for everyone, though most people will love them all, I suspect. Each is a gem and thoroughly enjoyable! My personal favorite is Murder Aboard Centauri Station which is a masterful combination of humor, action, and murder mystery.

Recognizing the importance of classroom talk

Too often, teacher and student talk during instruction can appear unimportant or unplanned to the untrained eye. Joelle Mellon received a B.A. in creative writing from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in library science from San Jose State University. We may know nothing about Joelle Mellon - yet - but when word gets around about the brilliance of writing of this her first novel (there being no other evidence of further books and certainly no biography to fill in the readers as to her background or even where she lives), this is a name that will rise to the top of the heap. Joelle has that curious combination of mindset that seems to embrace old British (or other ancient country) stories with a healthy dollop of humor, making reading her story one of entertainment on every page. This lady knows how to write, and if this is indeed a debut novel, watch out world!

Two planes of society are present as the story unfolds - the wealthy and the impoverished with the nuns in the middle. We first meet a young acolyte in the pickle basement of an Abbey: `She (Kerris Seaborn) had lived at Swynmoor Abbey since she had been a tiny baby, left at the front gate by someone who did not feel up to the task of raising a child in a year when the harvest had been particularly poor. A Foundling.' Kerris is bright as a student in the Abbey but her pickle making is subnormal so she heads to the library to find books on how to improve this money-making process for the nuns, or, pickling magic - motions and Old Reachian words that removed the mold from her pickled pepper crock. Sister Goldrose informs her now that her pickles as a good as her studies that she has been elected to be sent to pay for the annual taxes that the nuns rather grudgingly paid to the nobles for allowing them to operate the abbey on their land of Swynmoor Castle because she speaks Old Reachian like the rich folks. Meanwhile at Swynmoor Castle, we meet handsome young bachelor Lord Tomlin who as chief guardian of the castle is facing two problems: `Reynaud the Black was rapidly approaching, intent on attacking the castle with his terrible army of ogres and Fomorians. The second rider had come from the West, bringing the message that Tom's Aunt Jilona would also soon be descending upon the castle. She was planning to stay for several weeks and would be accompanied by a girl named Topaz Stonemont. ("Lady Swynmoor and Lady Topaz Stonemont!" They looked like a pair of tropical birds that had flown down from the sky, only to find that they had somehow landed in a climate that was entirely unsuitable for them.') Tom's formidable aunt believed that the young lady would make an excellent bride for him.' Into this mess arrives Kerris with her tax paying pickles and Tom immediately has eyes for the Foundling. Oh, we could go on with the intricacies of this sophisticated madcap tale, but that would dampen the joy of reading to the newcomer.

Joelle's fine tuned writing and keen sense of parody of aristocracy and `old manners' as well as love story development under less than favorable conditions makes of a short but rich book that gives notice of a promising young new talent. SWYNMOOR is a pleasure on every level. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, October 14

A novel I've nejoyed

I could have said I will love this book after seeing its cover - and after reading it, I realized I was not wrong at all. Some people really have it in their blood to write, and the author of this book is one of those people, in my opinion. If I would summarize the book in a couple of words I would say it is a well written parody about life and love, and how these two are experienced both by the wealthy and the less fortunate people. Joelle Mellon wonderfully provides an overview of this unique world by focusing on those less fortunate, like Kerris, and on those who were lucky to be born in a wealthy family, like the young Lord Tumlin, following their evolution throughout the book and the challenges that both lifestyles have to offer to the young characters. Their encounter, their challenges - are all revealed in a funny and unique way. It is actually strange to a certain extent to see how pickle making activities mix with manners and arranged love stories. The details, the humorous fashion in which the author builds the story and sets the stage is really opening the gates to an enchanting travel back in time. I have enjoyed this book - is something else than what is often available for book lovers today, it is the kind of book that stayed with me even after finishing it.

Laugh out loud (really)

I think the thing that strikes me about Swynmoor is the amazing comedic value it has. After reading the description of the book I was already prepared for an awesome story, but when Mellon starts in with her humor it won my heart.

The book is crafted incredibly well. There's a great plot, characters and the dialogue isn't cheesy like in a lot of books that contain the same subject matter. I liked that it flowed well which made it feel like I was only reading it for a few minutes when really hours had passed by.

I hope this author is coming out with another book soon. I'd love to see more of this type of story and writing on the market than some of the other stuff that's actually getting way too much attention. If you haven't yet read this book then do yourself a favor and pick it up. It'll knock you out of a bad mood in no time flat.

Pain erodes happiness. Dr. Mendes gave me my happiness back

I was just informed of this new edition of Dr. Mendes' book and rushed to purchase it immediately. The previous incarnations (also purchased) of this booked helped me get my life back on track following chronic back and knee pains I've been experiencing for a long time.

From my personal and very intimate experience, the new title gets it right - a routine that is as painless as it gets and alleviates the daily pain I've experienced in the past.

excellent system

These exercises really worked for me..
Back and hip pain which all but kept me in bed for days at a time, have been reduced and are completely manageable now.
i found that as long as i am consistent, the pain mostly stays away .
It's a small book , well explained and illustrated , and i could follow the instructions easily

My favorite in the Pleasure series :)

If your like me and your Favorite kind or (only) menage is a good M/F/M menage, This is a good
one to go for.... kinda short and i was wishing for more story but unlike most of the ones I've read in the
Pleasure series this one has a little bit more of a story line(not much) but it really helped that the characters
had known each other a long time soo No insta-love-mate sorta thing is really happening because it's been building
to this for a while and thou the heroine is a lil silly at times it really funny...for me it's my favorite in the Pleasure series...

Mister Finch, is an exquisite craftsman and textile artist living in Yorkshire England. Aside from a single art class he took years ago, Mister Finch is entirely self-taught, having discovered his passion for sewing after dabbling in a number of different media. From ruffle-winged birds to glassy-eyed hares, Mister Finch is known and loved around the world for his enchanting, fairytale-inspired creatures. He works alone in his cozy, plant-filled studio, sewing each inimitable piece by hand, not far from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

So much inspiration in this book! Mr. Finch has such a wonderful vision: the crafts are stunning and the photographs are art as well. I love reusing interesting old fabrics and trinkets in my work, and Mr. Finch opened my eyes to new ways to see and use these items. I envy his spontaneity, originality, and the way his objects connect with the viewer.

This book is a great portfolio. So often, photos don't capture the true magic of three dimensional objects. The photos in this book are wonderful. I'm very surprised that such a lush book can be this inexpensive. The quality of the physical book is excellent -- and the content is even better.

A Wonderful Treasure

This book is so thoughtfully designed to showcase Mr. Finch's magical work. I've followed his Facebook page for several years, but never fully grasped the actual size of his soft sculptures until seeing them all together in this volume. The behind-the-scenes photos of Mr. Finch at work are an added bonus. Having designed several books myself I especially appreciate the choice of paper and binding. This book has a wonderful tactile feel that enhances Mr. Finch's exquisite work.

Let's start with the exquisiteness of the embossed cover..A reminder of past books, I love the combination of the gold with the embossed quilted feel. Then as you open each page and read detailed passages of what each creation is made of and what processes were used your eyes bathe in awe at Mr.Finch's creativity. He is on a creative level of his own...I am so glad I found his works and ordered this book.It is front and foremost on a stand in my library....

Not Quite Full Stories

This is a well written set of scenes, but not much else. It was difficult to care about the characters at all, as we only spend a few pages with each before rushing on to the next. Before you know it, it's over. Granted, it's priced at 99 cents, but then again, there are a lot of really good buys at 99 cents.

If you buy this, consider it a sample. If a novel is a pan of brownies, this is the tiniest of morsels from the leftovers on the pan. It took me maybe ten minutes to read. The stories seemed to be relying heavily on readers being fans of the setting. However, I am a major fan of the setting, and I've got to say it wasn't enough. I wanted more.

I've had good experiences with Skull Island Expeditions novels and novellas, and I will probably buy more of those longer works in the future. But I probably won't buy another Iron Kingdoms Excursions book - at 99 cents, it's average at best.
