It is intended for artists seeking a better understanding of the cognitive process of making images. It's really sort of a "How To" book but without all those pesky lists and rules. The world is overfull of photographs but to be called a photographer still means something. While billions of SmartPhoners are highspeed scrolling to show you this and that from thousands of snapshots, often in multiple multiples, and everything in the world has been documented, often in the same way by many, many people, Hil Scott sees something that you didn't. A truly individual and a truly photographic way of seeing things, sometimes humorous, often unsettling and surprising. Unless seeing this way comes naturally, you can't set out to do it. Photographer Hil Scott sees this everywhere and you ought to take a look. Congratulations from Margie McG.

Engaging

This book offers not only a collection of images that are compelling and engaging but insight into the nature of how such images are captured and brought to fruition. Its value goes beyond what it teaches photographers and lovers of photographs. As a writer, I approach my work with different intentions and aspirations after reading this volume and processing its words and images. It provided a rare opportunity to thoughtfully consider not just the images and the author's creative process, but, more importantly perhaps, it provoked me to articulate my own.

This will be read many times in my house

I’ve read it a couple times now and really enjoyed finding new things about an image, or a new idea each time. A very subtle humor, you can tell when Hil Scott laughed when he wrote certain text. I plan to recommend Anomaly to several of my friends, particularly the photographers, but you definitely don’t need to be a photographer to appreciate it. One of my favorite lines, as an attorney, is "I don't do meaning but I will do relevance. The former presumes. The latter suggests." So true.
