A much welcomed game-changer of a book

I've been following Spencer's writings online for some time. I'm pleased that he has condensed a great amount of his thinking about the fascinating word of socionics, into an effective and sussinct e-book introduction to the subject.
This relatively new theoretical school of psychology, which originated in Russia, has developed a powerful schema to explain the layering of different 'function's in individual psyches. While based on the same jungian archetypes as the Myers-Briggs system, it has more teeth as it explains how different relationships between the 16 types have a tendency to play out. After providing detailed descriptions of the functional break-down of each type, Spencer gives the reader a glimpse into how their individual type interacts with other types, with varying levels of satisfaction and effectiveness.
This is powerful information for anyone looking to develop their self-awareness and their ability to communicate effectively in personal and intimate relationships. 'Your Social World Explained' is by far the best English language introduction to this significant subject that I have come across. Highly recommended.

A good practical explanation of socionics

This is Mr Stern's second book on Socionics. It is in many ways an improvement on his first book 'Socionics Demystified'. It is aimed at the general market and as such it does a good job. One could question the usefulness of much of the different group material that Stern has included.Stern omits the critical aspect of rational/ irrational factors that Jung identified.But it is fair I think to say that Stern tries to cover this with his extrovert /introvert approach that is more akin to the Myer Briggs approach. This is a key issue that seems to differentiate - at least in part - Socionics from the MBTI. I would like to see Stern publish a more 'academic' rigorous version of the 'confused'schools' that make up Socionics. Finally the gap for Stern and Socionics more generally is reliable and valid way[s] of identifying a person's socio-type. Without that there is just general knowledge. That is helpful but not conclusive when it comes to inter-type relations and that is what the general reader wants.

Fascinating book

This is a really enlightening book about how one reacts and why. I really liked what I called “mini quizzes” that helped narrow down which category one fell under.
The author also explained Socionics. Socionics is a modification of Carl Jung's personality type theory that uses eight psychic functions, in contrast to Jung's model, which used only four. These functions process information at varying levels of competency and interact with the corresponding function in other individuals, giving rise to predictable reactions and impressions—a theory of intertype relations.
Hence the “mini quizzes” in this book along with a wealth of information regarding why people act the way they do.
This was a fascinating book and I know I’ll re-read it a few more times as it contains a wealth of information.
