About the Author
Pauline Baird Jones had a tough time with reality from the get-go. After "schooling" from four, yes FOUR brothers, she knew that some people needed love and others needed shooting. Pauline figured she could do both. Romantic suspense was the logical starting point, but there were more worlds to explore, more rules to break and minds to bend. She grabbed her pocket watch and time travel device and dove through the wormhole into the world of science fiction and even some Steampunk.

Now she wanders among the genres, trying a little of this and a lot of that, rampaging through her characters' lives like Godzilla because she does love her peril (when it's not happening to her). Never fear, she gives her characters happy endings. Well, the good characters. The bad ones get justice.

Pauline has published 16 novels. Her latest release is Core Punch: A Baker & Ban!drn Adventure. It is the launch book for An Uneasy Future, a spin-off of Project Enterprise and The Big Uneasy.

Ebola controversy

I have been reading materials about the Ebola virus for quite some time now. It’s always helpful to be well-informed and updated in matters like this which concerns everyone at the moment. I would say this book is highly controversial since it argues Ebola not as a virus that just popped out and started killing people but an intentional one made by the government together with some pharmaceutical companies. It also talks about the connection between the outbreak and terrorism in which the virus is used as a biological weapon. A lot more assumptions are detailed in the book with one or more supporting evidence. Of course, all of these are just theories and one can hope that this virus ends sooner rather than later.

Controversial... but interesting

Not going to lie, one of my guilty pleasures is reading and learning about controversial topics as well as conspiracy theories. Ebola is one of the prevalent topics around, but if you remember, things like the Swine Flu, Bird Flu, etc also happened as well and they just disappeared. We don't know what goes behind the curtains... keep your eyes and your mind open.

I enjoyed this book, and the author really got into it with such a sensitive topic. It takes some guts I would think to write an ebook like this.

He says it all. He is not attacking anyone, he is just tackling the 5 most popular ebola hypothesis at this time. Even if these hypothesis are not true, challenging the brain and thinking about the possible scenarios are the two best possible outcomes of this book. My favorite part"question everything"

Je suis une jeune femme enceinte de 22 semaines et je dois dire: Quel ouvrage rafraîchissant sur ce qui entoure l'accouchement. Je suis travailleuse sociale de formation et j'ai toujours eu beaucoup de difficulté avec toute la pression qui entoure la maternité. Je suis une personne assez forte de tête qui assume assez bien mes idées sur les différentes croyances et méthodes entourant l'accouchement et l'allaitement. Malgré tout je ressens déjà un peu la pression et je sais que celle-ci aurait un peu eu raison de moi à l'hôpital. Mais ce livre m'a aidé à solidifier mes idées et à remettre en perspective toutes ces croyances qui me mettaient de la pression. Par exemple, je me sentais un peu mal de ne pas arriver avec un plan de naissance bien défini pour mon accouchement alors que j'avais plus envie d'inscrire que des souhaits, compte tenu que j'ai aucune idée de ce qui m'attend. Ce livre m'a aidé à solidifier ma vision et à assumer le fait que je ne suis pas en mesure de déterminer précisément ce qui se passera le jour J. Bref, ce livre je le conseille à toutes les mamans!

Barely a 2

The good part was the 1st 1/2 of the book was actually decent. Enough info on the characters to get you to start liking them. There is a good build up of the sexual tension between the 2 MCs who seem like good strong men. The handful of secondary characters, except one, you get enough info on to see where/why they fit into the story. You want good things for the protagonists and really want them to get together. Then about mid-way thru the book the MCs FINALLY get together and you think, ok, now we're gettin somewhere and that's where you are SO wrong. That's the point when you get a couple of major drama queens who are just annoying as all get out, to each other and the reader. I mean I know the MCs are only in their early 20's but c'mon! It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine in M/M books where you start out with 2 strong men and then turn them into a couple of whiny girls, not attractive! You can't even limp thru to the end of the book on good sex scenes because once you're read the 1st one, you've read them all. Seriously, the SAME thing, same moves, same 'slamming eyes' closed and the same pause in the middle of the naughty bits to say mushy stuff. Mushy stuff is good, I like mushy stuff but if you're in the middle of something hot and steamy it kind of throws a cold bucket of water on it if it's not done right, and it's not. By the 75% point I was seriously struggling to finish the book and by the end I had no liking for the MCs at all and I have absolutely no interest in continuing with their story. Just one humans opinion.

Jamie and Ethan have been culinary classmates for three years and have crushed on each other just as long. Now as juniors, they’re competing to win a scholarship that won’t only pay for their tuition in their final year of culinary school but also give them the opportunity to work with the best chefs in Paris. But when Ethan’s struggle in their pastry course becomes obvious, Jamie takes it upon himself to give Ethan lessons even if he doesn’t want them in the hopes of finally acting on his desire to be with Ethan. With their different backgrounds and their obvious love of food, can these boys get passed the struggles that come not only with school but with family and their own emotions, too?

I’m very conflicted over my feelings for this book. On one hand, I liked the premise of the story. The whole competitors vying for the same scholarship plus the bad boy/golden boy and rich/poor aspect of the characters gave the story a bit of intrigue. I liked that Jamie and Ethan were so different in not just social class but personality as well. Jamie is calm and collected, always serene and mellow while Ethan can easily be described as a hothead. He’s bad-tempered and doesn’t hold any punches when he decides to make you his target. They’re complete opposites with Jamie being able to charm everyone and Ethan being able to piss everyone off. I really liked that contrast and while, at times, they could be immature and firmly embraced the “we need to talk but let’s have sex first” strategy, I still liked that they found a great connection after years of yearning for one another.

Unfortunately, while I liked the characters, it was hard for me to really get into the story knowing that it wouldn’t end with them together. Sadly, if I had known this had a bittersweet ending, I wouldn’t have read it. I read romances because I want to see the characters end up together in the end so, for me, agreeing to review this and then finding out that it didn’t have a traditional HEA really put a damper on my enjoyment. This is a personal preferences and I’ll freely admit that knowing how it ended had a HUGE impact in my enjoyment to the point where it was hard for me to really let myself get into the story for fear that I’d come to love a book and then get brokenhearted with the ending (I’m not really one for crying my eyes out or angst).

Now, that’s not to say the book isn’t good. As I said, I enjoyed the premise and I liked the characters. If it had an HEA or even an HFN, I probably would have really liked this one. As it is, I didn’t let myself get into the story because I knew it ended bittersweet to the point that obviously something happens while one of them is in Paris because the sequel picks up 8 years later where it is noted they are NOT together. There were a few moments in the story that I questioned and couldn’t understand like when Reed tried to blackmail Jamie why Ethan didn’t just take the camera away from Reed when he was manhandling him because he was right there, it would have been extremely easy to put a stop to the threat before it got far enough to be blackmail. There were also one or two other instances that bothered me but nothing too extravagant.

Overall, my biggest issue was the ending. I just couldn’t let myself get into it because of that and that’s all on me and why I’m going with a neutral rating. I felt like the authors wrote a lovely story (sans ending) and had a good voice together. The characters were vastly different, a little immature at times, but definitely unique in their own way. Their conflicts and ultimate clashing were interesting to see play out.

While I might not have allowed myself to enjoy this one as much as I would have liked, I think others who like a bit of angst, unconventional endings and the rich/poor; bad boy/golden boy characteristics will enjoy this one. And while I couldn’t really get into this one, I bet I’ll be able to enjoy the sequel, In the Fire, much more knowing that after 8 years, these boys will end up together… as long as they DO end up together in an HEA LMAO.

This book will make you hungry....in more ways than one....

First of all, I just want to say that I did NOT receive an ARC of this book for my opinion, nor did anyone ask for my review. I bought this book because, in reading reviews for a different book, I checked out the "see all my reviews" of someone and was intrigued by the story. What a surprise! In The Raw is an excellent example of M/M romance at its best. The collaboration of the two authors has produced a beautiful, gritty, touching story of intense, wrong-side-of-the-tracks attraction between two guys whose backgrounds are so different, but who shared matching goals and ambitions. Jamie comes from privilege and wealth, but his parents want him to conform to an impossible life they have mapped out for him that doesn't include a gay son. Ethan is OUT there and doesn't apologize for anything. The two of them have been attracted to each other for three years at the culinary school, but didn't think the other was gay. Oh My God, the authors turned "building sexual tension" between these two into an art form, and it was HALF way through the book before they even kissed! I had to kick the ceiling fan up to three for the first time they FINALLY got together! It was so HOT!

The rest of the book will make you pump your fist, cry a bucket, laugh out loud and cheer for these two amazing guys and what they did for each other. The ending leaves a lot of questions to be answered and is somewhat foreboding. At this point, I have a whole week to wait for the sequel, which I have pre-ordered, but, I warn you, don't read the blurb for the next book until you can actually start it because I just wanted to cry for these two guys when I read it. I am just going to trust the authors to give me another beautiful ending between Jamie and Ethan.

A much welcomed game-changer of a book

I've been following Spencer's writings online for some time. I'm pleased that he has condensed a great amount of his thinking about the fascinating word of socionics, into an effective and sussinct e-book introduction to the subject.

This relatively new theoretical school of psychology, which originated in Russia, has developed a powerful schema to explain the layering of different 'function's in individual psyches. While based on the same jungian archetypes as the Myers-Briggs system, it has more teeth as it explains how different relationships between the 16 types have a tendency to play out. After providing detailed descriptions of the functional break-down of each type, Spencer gives the reader a glimpse into how their individual type interacts with other types, with varying levels of satisfaction and effectiveness.

This is powerful information for anyone looking to develop their self-awareness and their ability to communicate effectively in personal and intimate relationships. 'Your Social World Explained' is by far the best English language introduction to this significant subject that I have come across. Highly recommended.

A good practical explanation of socionics

This is Mr Stern's second book on Socionics. It is in many ways an improvement on his first book 'Socionics Demystified'. It is aimed at the general market and as such it does a good job. One could question the usefulness of much of the different group material that Stern has included.Stern omits the critical aspect of rational/ irrational factors that Jung identified.But it is fair I think to say that Stern tries to cover this with his extrovert /introvert approach that is more akin to the Myer Briggs approach. This is a key issue that seems to differentiate - at least in part - Socionics from the MBTI. I would like to see Stern publish a more 'academic' rigorous version of the 'confused'schools' that make up Socionics. Finally the gap for Stern and Socionics more generally is reliable and valid way[s] of identifying a person's socio-type. Without that there is just general knowledge. That is helpful but not conclusive when it comes to inter-type relations and that is what the general reader wants.

Fascinating book

This is a really enlightening book about how one reacts and why. I really liked what I called “mini quizzes” that helped narrow down which category one fell under.
The author also explained Socionics. Socionics is a modification of Carl Jung's personality type theory that uses eight psychic functions, in contrast to Jung's model, which used only four. These functions process information at varying levels of competency and interact with the corresponding function in other individuals, giving rise to predictable reactions and impressions—a theory of intertype relations.
Hence the “mini quizzes” in this book along with a wealth of information regarding why people act the way they do.
This was a fascinating book and I know I’ll re-read it a few more times as it contains a wealth of information.

Not just for Ebola

When I picked up this book, I thought I would only be learning about Ebola. As I read, I realized though that this book is actually useful for any virus and any pandemic. A beautiful tale

Before this book, I didn't think much about meditation, hypnosis, or soul mates. I didn't understand those concepts. But reading about them weaved into a fictional story, made such an beautiful and inspirational read. From the start, I was pulled in. Learning about Shature's decent into our dimension. The feelings she felt of not being whole, searching for her other half. Her experiences intrigued me. Her path to healing inspired me. I look forward to more tales similar to this.

So much more than I anticipated.

Campfire stories is a gathering of different stories set in different places. I can't review this as I would a novel or novella, so instead I will give a small resume of each story and my thoughts.

The End of Seconds:
A story about the end of all that exist. Quite interesting concept that explains the big bang and well…you have to read it, I won't spoil it. Definitely a 5*

Games of Life and Cold:
A peaceful race encounters another who thinks themselves as superior. While short, the world and environment along with the races were well depicted. Another 5*.

If you listen softly:
A man wake up with a feeling something is wrong.
I loved the short story. You know…it may explain a whole lot of things. 5*

All my yesterdays, Remembered:
This one is…well I can't say without spoilers so I won't say. I'll just say that a man learns his best friend's astounding secret.
I liked it although there wasn't much to this one and well…having cancer myself, I'm tired of stories with people dying from cancer, but I won't hold it against the author. I'm giving this one a 4.5*.

Symmetry:
In this one, we meet a man with a peculiar job.
Interesting concept. I guess everyone has their idea about how that goes…yeah, I'm being vague on purpose so I won't give any spoilers. I'm thorn on this one. Original yet, the story was so short… Maybe a 4.5*

Signpost:
An astronaut makes contact with a most advanced race.
It kind of reminded me of the movie Contact with Jodie Foster. Not bad but not one of my favorite in this collection of stories. 4*

Last light:
A hostage situation with an enhanced human.
Well written but unlike the other stories, it lacked a bit of originality. I still wonder how this would end though so I'll give this one a 4* also.

The Shape of the truth:
Humans don't trust Children of Li'Jha. They called them Changers. Their natural form looks like a gel ball. They can take any human form, thus the humans' mistrust. One of them is pursued for the murder of a senator. The thing is, Children of Li'Jha can't kill. Will Dari solve the mystery?
We get to learn about a new race, and so much more. The world along with the characters are well developed even for such a short story. Well worth the read. A solid 5*.

Over all, although I did give a few 4 and 4.5 to some stories, the whole book deserves a 5*. I'd recommend to anyone that looks for an entertaining read, especially fans of short scifi stories.

well-rounded overview

This book was helpful in identifying the symptoms for addictive behaviors. I don't consider myself as having an addictive personality, but I do know people who have such a tendency. It's very interesting to think about the many different things that people are addicted to. We have a fascinating creatures, and limiting in the sense of being so attached to specific elements. Fantastic Books!

Okay, I have to level with you here. I've read only Sinful Seduction and Under His Protection. Both books were real page-turners with a lot of action, adventure, mystery and a love story. There are a lot of great things about these books but the greatest thing is you can pick up novel #8 like I did and never be lost or get confused because you didn't read works 1-7. Nothing drives me crazier than picking up a book, not realizing it's part of a series and start reading it only to find out you had to read previous books just to get caught up with the story. That isn't the case here. Yes, it is a series but the books pack enough punch to stand on their own, too. And just for the record, I do want to read the entire series and I will just because it is that good.

Sinful Seduction

This was the first book I've read of the Red Stone Security series and I think it's like number eight in the series which means I got into it well into the game. But no worries. Katie Reus is a master at letting you jump into a series without being lost. I felt like I should have known Vincent who was not a big part of this book but he still mattered. I wasn't lost is my point. The book can stand alone even if it is a part of a series.

I loved Alexander Blue. Big, strong, confident, handsome as all get out, and a just little bit vulnerable. He'd been alone a long time when he met up with Mina and how they met was just sheer luck for both of them. (No spoilers!) What started out as a crime, ended up a blessing.

Mina was very likeable and even a little daring at times but she still had an air of innocence that surrounded her. Unlike so many heroines in books these days, she had the decency to blush and not be some raving maniac who just wants sex with a hot guy. I knew she had feelings for him that surpassed just a casual rendezvous and he had the same for her. I don't know if it was the stress of the situation that pushed them together or the fact that both of them were lonely. Probably both. But she wanted more from him than just sex. However, that didn't stop her from following her carnal instincts and put herself out there but she wasn't cheap about it.

The book was great and I'll read more of them

Under His Protection

This was a really good book with action,adventure, mystery and a love story to boot. It was fast and easy to read and follow. Although it is part of a series, it can hold its own as a stand-alone book.

Ivan is a part of Red Stone Security and takes some time away from his job to do some personal security to Julieta who is the owner of a lingerie shop and is being stalked by some mental case.

The mystery in the story revolves around this stalker and Julieta and I have to say, I found that more intriguing than the love story between Ivan and Julieta. The author did an amazing job with that part of the story and the love story was a byline. I don't know if it was intended to be that way but I wanted to get past the stuff with Ivan and Julieta and see how Ivan was going to take care of the stalker.

I also wanted to know about this deal with Ruby and what I thought would be a potential relationship with Sandro (Julieta's brother) only to find out that she had a thing for Julieta's other brother, Montez. It was said in passing but I would like to see where that would go. *hint hint* ;)

It was definitely worth the time it took to read it. The whole series is very good

Quite an enjoyable romantic suspense series!

Protecting His Witness - A love that survived the years…

Jordan Alvarado’s actions one evening saved a friend and led her to a decision that impacted the man that she loved. She was in college at the time and four months into a relationship with him. She didn’t know where their future was headed so though it hurt her to do so she made the best choice possible for him without his knowledge. Circumstances have changed after seven years and the one thing that she needs to do to move on with her life is to apologize and hopefully obtain forgiveness from the man that she has never been able to forget.

When someone you love deeply leaves your life abruptly with no warning and no explanation your world is turned upside down. There is no closure and there are no answers. You are left with a huge rift in your heart and you always wonder about that person. That is what happened to Vincent Hansen, a former Navy seal who now works for Redstone Security. Seven years have passed and then the woman who he once loved returns looking for forgiveness with an amazing story, perhaps the only story that he could forgive her for once he got over his anger for not having been allowed to be a part of the decision that she made for him all those years ago.

This is a second chance romance of two lovers forced apart by a decision resulting from circumstances beyond their control. What they didn’t expect was for the fire that had always burned between them to still be alive after seven years of silence. Neither had found closure or another that could take the others place in their hearts. She not believing there could be more seeks forgiveness and he though angry soon finds that he wants to keep what was always his. But nothing is ever simple and as they dance around each other trying to resolve things they learn that someone with deadly intentions has not forgotten Jordan. This story has action and suspense and two strong and likable main characters. You get both their points of views as well as that of the villain’s. This was quite an enjoyable story.

Sinful Seduction - A very sweet and suspenseful read!

Mina Hollingsworth is an artist, the daughter of a very wealthy scientist and that makes her a target for those who want something from her father. To have her own life she has distanced herself from her family and is living unpretentiously under an assumed name. She makes a mistake one evening and cuts through an alley on her way home and she is attacked but saved by a stranger with serious martial arts skills. She is very much impressed that a stranger would go to such lengths for someone they don’t know and when she sees he was injured it is the least she can do to take care of him.

Alexander Blue is a former marine, a member of the Red Stone Security group. He is still adjusting to civilian life and is out for a walk when he sees a woman being attacked. It is his inherent nature to protect and he steps in and saves her. Blue is very concerned when Mina doesn’t want the police involved and escorts her home; something was not right about the attack. Once she is home the aftereffects of the attack hit her and she doesn’t want to be alone so Blue stays with her and they talk for hours. Though they are from different worlds they have much in common and their attraction to each other is palpable. But they don’t act on it at the beginning though they both think on it.

The romance between these two very likable characters was so sweet. Blue, the honorable protective alpha male supports this most interesting and strong woman as he cares for her more and more. It becomes evident that the attack was not random and that someone wants to kidnap Mina, something that Blue is not going to let happen. Mina who is used to keeping her distance from people is so drawn to Blue and she comes to rely on his strength especially when she cannot reach her father or his head of security. There is much suspense and action amidst the romance as the kidnappers continue their attempts while Blue and the Redstone team work to keep Mina safe and figure out who is doing this. There is a nice twist on the resolution that I did not see coming. This series is always enjoyable and Katie Reus finds the perfect complements for her heroes and heroines.

Under His Protection - He protects the woman he wants…

Ivan Mitchell is alone in the world since his father passed but he’s found a family of friends in Red Stone Security. He has a reputation for being a player since he doesn’t do relationships but then he hasn’t met anyone that tempts him to do otherwise until the day he walks into Julieta’s shop protecting a client. As the months pass he watches this vibrant woman and it’s not just her looks that attract him, she’s the kind of woman a man wants to keep and when someone tries to hurt her he finally makes his move.

Julieta Mederos owns a lingerie shop and works hard to be independent of her very protective family. Her last relationship didn’t turn out well and with starting and growing her business she hasn’t had time to date but the tall, blue-eyed, blond man who’s built like a Viking god who walks into her store one day with a customer caught her attention. As she becomes friends with his client he sorely tempts her but she doesn’t think he even likes her for he rarely talks and just stares. Then on a day when she receives a text from a stalker it is Ivan who sees the distress she tries to hide and takes over as her protector.

Ivan is one great alpha, protective and willing to try to be more than he knows to be with a woman like Julieta, there is nothing casual about his feelings for her. I liked how he admitted things when asked and then to correct the mistaken impression she’d gotten from the people he associates with. Julieta is a strong willed woman who doesn’t like to rely on others but she does on Ivan and her constantly thanking him had this reader smiling. There is humor in their banter. The behavior of the stalker is escalating and Julieta fights allowing the fear to paralyze her life as Ivan and friends try to track down the man responsible and keep her safe.

I quite enjoyed this story, the romance was sweet and sexy, there is mystery and suspense and we are given three points of views, that of Ivan, Julieta, and the stalker. We are actually given a clue as to the stalker’s identity early on but you won’t realize that it was a clue until the end due to the author’s calculated misdirection. Books in this series are always an enjoyable read.

Red Stone Security is a must-read romance series!

Book #7 - PROTECTING HIS WITNESS

I have loved all the books in the Red Stone Security series, and book 7, Protecting His Witness did not disappoint.

Seven years ago Jordan had to leave Vincent and go into witness protection. Now that the threat is over, she is back to ask/beg his forgiveness and come clean with the only man she's ever loved.

Vincent's heart was broken when Jordan left without saying a word. But now that she's back he must figure out what his feelings are and where she fits in his life. As Vincent and Jordan try to work through their relationship accidents start to happen. Initially Vincent thinks he could be the target, but more information reveals that Jordan's previous threat may not be over after all. Can Vincent protect Jordan and keep her in his life this time around?

Ms. Reus gives us super sexy characters, incredibly hot smex, and delicious suspense in her Red Stone Security series. I look forward to the next installment!

Book #8 - SINFUL SEDUCTION

Another great installment in the Red Stone Security series.

Alexander Blue, Red Stone Security employee and former Marine, is in Key West after a job when he witnesses a mugging. As his training and instincts dictate, Blue immediately races to help. Fighting off the muggers, he saves Mina while sustaining a minor injury. Mina doesn't want to deal with police or a hospital, so she takes Blue to her place and bandages his wounds. While Blue finds Mina incredibly attractive, he's also intrigued by what she says, and more importantly, what she doesn't say. What secrets is she hiding?

As Blue digs deeper into this mystery, he discovers Mina needs protection; the kind Red Stone Security provides and he's on the case!

Blue and Mina are simply adorable together. As they both work through trust issues as a result of their pasts, they find that opening up to each other may be just the medicine they need.

This series just gets better with each installment. Highly recommended for romance and romantic suspense fans.

Book #9 - UNDER HIS PROTECTION

Red Stone Security employee and former Army Ranger Ivan Mitchell meets store owner Julieta Mederos while on bodyguard duty to Julieta's friend. Ivan is instantly taken with her, but keeps his distance until Julieta starts receiving disturbing text messages and her store is vandalized. Julieta has a stalker!

Ivan is determined to protect Jules and keep her close to him until her stalker is found, captured or killed. But with few real clues to the stalker's identity, Ivan has to pull out all the stops to do whatever it takes to keep Jules safe and hopefully have her in his life.

Under His Protection is another fabulous story in the Red Stone Security series! A definite must-read for lovers of romantic suspense with strong, sexy characters and a solid story line.

This is a highly recommended series. I cannot wait for the next installment!
