Everything you ever need to know about Ebola all in one brilliant book

The most all inclusive guide I have yet to find on the Ebola Virus! This book was bought on a whim because of my desire to protect my family. I’ve read many google blogs, articles, and pages but grew very tired of varying theories and the chatter of arm-chair scientists. I was in hopes that the book would compile all the information that I was looking for. This book not only did that, but it provided information that I didn’t even think about asking for.

I was so intrigued by the depth of background knowledge and statistical data that the author provided. He even went so far as to provide a clear list of the things needed to protect your family followed by links that take you right to the product. That, fellow reader, is indispensable. Oh, and don’t think that’s all. This guide even has diagrams as well when referencing things like quarantine rooms and what needs to be done if contraction occurs. I can’t state enough that this material truly is all inclusive.

In summation, I have looked for, researched, and read an extensive amount of information on Ebola. Up until the point of buying this book, I never found anything remotely as informative. As a parent with a loving wife and children I find this guide to not only be an intriguing read, but a necessary element for the protection of your family. That, in my opinion, is the best reason for owning this book any person could ever need.

I won’t lie, with all the hype surrounding Ebola right now, I became paranoid. I decided that I wanted to read up on it, and I wanted something more in depth than a compilation of articles and websites. I am SO happy I found this ‘Ebola survival guide’ by Christopher Seagal. This book gave me some facts I had never heard, as well as a lot of useful information. I will be buying a copy for my cousin who is a bit of an information junkie. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to find real facts and research about the Ebola virus.

Much better than I thought it would be

I purchased this book because it was cheap, and promised several short stories from an author I was unfamiliar with. I expected that these stories would not have aged well, a problem with much of the older science fiction. However the stories in this collection for the most part do not rest upon scientific speculation that has been proven false in the intervening decades. Milton Rothman was a true scientist himself and he kept most of these stories well within the possible. There were of course exceptions, you don't find too many authors these days writing about colonists on Venus. In all this was an enjoyable collection and certainly worth the miniscule price tag.

An amazingly good set of stories, from an author I, quite honestly, never remember hearing about before... and I've read a LOT of SF over the last 40 or so years. A much overlooked talent. Really, quite good.

the forms are best in class

This book is a compilation of forms from different hospitals. The author has added few notes, which in general did not add any value.
Supposedly, the forms are best in class, based on TJC review.
Here is what I would have liked to see:
Operational definitions of measurements
Evidence of success (not that the physicians got involved and they liked it). Success would be a sustainable improvement of clinical outcomes that resulted in good patient care.
And while I am grateful for the staff who were willing to share their forms, I believe by and large there is still a heavy emphasis on passing accreditation instead of improving care (this cannot occur by proxy or correlation)
I cannot justify the cost of this book nor the author contribution to the materials.

Probably a bit biased here as this is about one of my favorite 2000AD characters, but this novella is awesome. It's more light-hearted in some ways than the other Dredd books I've read so far - which is quite refreshing - but doesn't sacrifice any of what makes Anderson Anderson.

Heartbreaker gives an inside peek into the PSI-Div and introduces a fantastic cast of characters including Judge Montana who are all wonderfully characterized. Definitely buy it.

Highly Readable Judge Anderson Novella

I discovered 2000AD comics in my late teens via the Eagle reprints available here in the States and have loved the Dreddverse since. As an adult, I retained an affection for the characters and the setting but my interest flagged, fueled more by nostalgia than genuine interest. As a symbol of immutable justice, Judge Dredd himself can be only so complex and interesting, at least from an adult perspective. Dredd is never unsure of himself, never in doubt, always stolid and confident, always the same. Interesting characters change over time, usually as the result of consequences triggered by events caused by choices made by those characters. The really interesting characters--conflicted, unsure of themselves and more often than not stumbling and bumbling their way to the truth--are the stuff of great tragedy. (Yeah, I know: we're talking Judge Dredd here, not Hamlet. Bear with me.)

Judge Cassandra Anderson, on the other hand, offers all kinds of interesting possibilities, especially from a writer's perspective. For one thing, Judge Anderson can read minds--which in turn means a writer can go head-hopping all over the place, shifting voice and point-of-view within a given scene without violating all kinds of written and unwritten narrative rules. For another, Anderson--although a Judge--considers herself a human being, with faults and foibles. She allows herself to feel, sometimes has doubts--and, it should be noted, a lively sense of humor.

As a comics writer, Alec Worley did a marvelous job transitioning to a prose-only format, something not all comic writers can pull off--I think because comic script writing, like screenwriting and playwrighting, is far more different from writing straight-up fiction than many are likely to believe. There were times when I thought the narrative seemed rushed, as if the author wanted to go from point A to B, action scene to action scene, as quickly as possible. I would suggest slowing it down and focusing on character development, particularly in a Judge Anderson novel, for the simple reason that Judge Anderson has a character to develop.

Short Novella for Fans

This read more like a script for a comic than an actual novella and somehow felt unfulfilled. If you like the 2000 AD world of Megacity One then this is a quick read as good as reading half a dozen or so comics. Personally I have always liked Judge Anderson as a character. She doesn't have the same sense of humor that Dredd does, but she had psi powers that add an interesting twist to what is basically a cop character.

About the Author

Anthony Caro played a pivotal role in the development of twentieth‐century sculpture. After studying sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools in London, he worked as assistant to Henry Moore. He came to public attention with a show at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1963, where he exhibited large abstract sculptures brightly painted and standing directly on the ground so that they engaged the spectator on a one‐to‐one basis. This was a radical departure from the way sculpture had hitherto been seen and paved the way for future developments in three‐dimensional art.

Toby Glanville’s photography is featured in numerous publications, including Family (Phaidon, 2005), Actual Life (2003), Then Things Went Quiet (2003) and The Lebanese Kitchen (Phaidon, 2012). Collections in which his work is held include the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Council, British Land, the Bruce Bernard Collection and the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Beautiful Book

I have many books on Caro and this has to be the best.
It is very rare to find a book that has multiple views of his sculptures, and even rarer to see images of his studios.
Not only are the pieces shown in isolation, but also in exhibitions with other pieces (of the same or different dates).
Each section is separated by a page of pure color which refreshes the palate.
The comments of Tony Caro about his work provide great insight into the pieces.
Well worth owning.

As good, if not better in some ways, than the original novel. The publishers that passed on this were idiots. I'm waiting for the movies to come. The Oz series is 100 times better than any of the latest ya sci-fi adaptations.

Excellent book and addition to the Oz Chronicles. I don't remember the original well enough to tell the differences in the stories but I will be re-reading the other version. These books are that good. You won't read them just once.

A few differences from the original. Really well done. Made me want to reread the entire series. I recommend reading the original version of The Takers and the rest of the Oz series first. Then read this version.

Girls' Fantasy Fiction Done Well

In Bastard Princess: The Legend of the Lion-Eyed Child, Ms. Carter introduces us to Isabel--a bright, confident girl with golden eyes, who both charms and alarms those around her. At the book's opening, Isabel is aged 4; her mother has died and her father, the King, comes to claim her. She is raised as a princess surrounded by political intrigue in the fictional land of Dahrian. As royal power struggles intensify and the church is divided, Isabel finds herself at the center of matters, due to a legend that foretells the coming of a child with a lion's eyes, who will first bring conflict and then peace.

When she is 8, Isabel's step-mother, the Queen, also dies. Then, in an ill-conceived attempt to unite the rival political families, Isabel's father decides to remarry. To ease the transition, the King sends Isabel away to live with her aunt and uncle, where she finds a temporary safe-haven. While there, Isabel grows into a young woman, receiving an education, learning to fight, and developing her first crush, all side by side with her three male cousins.

At age 13, when she is finally called back to the capitol by her father, Isabel is mistreated by the King's new wife, and nearly forced into her own political marriage. She escapes with the help of an underground network of priests and citizens who she discovers have rallied around her due to the legend. War comes and Isabel must chose her role and how to play it. At first reluctant, Isabel ultimately steps into the shoes of the lion-eyed child of the legend, helping to restore peace, dismantling the corrupt church in a dramatic surprise turn of events, and, of course, finding love in the end.

While the plot is interesting, it is Isabel's character and her relationships with those around her that I found most enjoyable. Isabel is not a typical child, either in her mother's family or her father's, and she senses that at a very early age. She loves her father but recognizes his faults. She faces the deaths of both of her mothers with sorrow and strength simultaneously. Her bad luck does not make her hard or bitter. She is not upset by having feelings for multiple men simultaneously. She learns to fight well but is still quite feminine. She does not defer to convention or tradition, nor does she fight against it. Instead she simply looks for, and eventually finds, her own way. It is these lovely contradictions in Isabel's character that make her enjoyable to read, and a refreshing female heroine, especially for the fantasy genre.

One final note: I consider this book an appropriate read for young adults, but not for children. The subject of sex, before and after marriage is addressed, and while the scenes are not overly graphic, there is both an attempted rape and a honeymoon scene.

Someone you love has suffered a stroke. Now what?

I was drawn to this booklet because (like this author) my mother suffered a severe, disabling stroke. At first, I found more differences than similarities. My mother and I were exceptionally close. Ms. Rosati and her mother had not seen each other or spoken for an incredible five years before the daughter was called home to Cleveland following her mother's stroke. Frankly, such a situation is incomprehensible to me.

I was also astonished that her mother had untreated hypertension and undiagnosed Atrial Fibrillation. That her intelligent husband and son failed to recognize her serious medical problems until she collapsed is baffling. They seem like a strange family to me.

However, it's impossible not to be impressed and touched by the daughter's realization that the medical professionals' cut-and-dried, one-size-fits-all approach was totally wrong for her mother and I admire her courage in being willing to stand up to them. I well remember after my mother's stoke when a very young speech therapist came into her room and addressed her as "Granny" and started talking about the Great Depression. Mom WAS eighty-four years old, but she was still working full time at a demanding job and she wasn't used to be treated like an idiot! Sadly, this is a common occurrence when an older person suffers a serious stroke. Unless the family is willing and able to advocate for them, the prognosis is grim.

This family's experiences and the resources listed make this a valuable contribution.

Interesting little read but well and truly overpriced

I got this free and, as such, am happy about giving it 4 stars. Had I had to pay the full price I would have been very disappointed as I read it in only a few minutes. Bear in mind too that the front and back matter make up over 1/3 of the book's pages. But it's an interesting little snippet of a daughter's relationship with her mother following a stroke.

Nice short account

This is a brief overview about a dance instructor who used dance as PT after a stroke. Probably it is an advertisement for the services provided by her daughter, who wrote the text. Interesting, but superficial and inapplicable to the average person. How many old ladies with strokes have "dance muscle memory?"
