I loved the relationships among the characters, fast-paced action, and the lovely unexpected unfolding of a story well told.

The characters and the story line in Stardancer are absolutely solid, no matter where it happens to take place. Yes, the setting is on a strange, unknown planet with two moons. Yes , there are plants and animals (beautifully described, by the way) which are not of this earth. But what will hold most readers, young or not-so-young, will be the relationships among the characters, the fast-paced action, and the lovely unexpected unfolding of a story well told. I love the word pictures in this book. Sedinger strikes an excellent balance with enough description to create a lush world the reader can fully experience without losing the pace of the page-turning plot. While the primary characters in the novel are female, this is not a "chick book". Nor is it just for young readers, even though the protagonists are very young. What this author has managed to pull off quite well is a very nice balance between including both males and females, both adults and kids. There is really something for everyone who enjoys fiction - even if sci fi/fantasy is not generally one's preferred genre. It's simply a very enjoyable story about getting lost (and let's face it, we've ALL been lost at some point, right?) and trying to sort out who to trust, where to go, and what to believe on the long journey home.

Delightfully engaging!

I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book, but a friend said I should read it. I was so pleasantly surprised to find myself totally engrossed. (My family grumbled as I ignored them in order to keep reading.) It is a very imaginative story with characters that are easy to relate to. Good reading for young adults (or not-so-young). Can't wait for Book 2!!

A Refreshing Read

The first thing that struck me about this novel was how the author captured the very essence of what the tumultuous teenage years are like. Sixteen and being frustrated that you are trapped between being told to act like an adult while being treated like a child is frustrating enough, but add in the annoyances and pressures of being royalty and it takes the mental anguish to a new level. All this -before- it goes terribly wrong for our princesses.
That is what I love about how our protagonist is portrayed. So many authors seem to forget the psychological roller coaster that teenagers are facing as their bodies are going through some of the strongest changes in their lives, and Kelly Sedinger doesn't ever forget that. It's a refreshing insight that is lost in so much young adult fiction.
Stardancer also feels like a fast read, as you suddenly realize that you are chapters ahead of where you once were. It keeps you enthralled as you follow the adventure, taking breathers in the action as the characters contemplate their next move. The elements in the story feel organic and nothing is forced upon the reader. Everything flows like a river and I'm hoping that future installments are as entertaining and thrilling as this one.
