Chapter 1: Introduction — In The Out door
There he was — one foot in, and one foot out of the bathroom door, mumbling incoherently, "LET ME IN.” Only problem was... he was neither locked in, nor out — and he was missing his pants.
Yep. He was half-naked with his vital-parts hanging out... while his vital-signs were slipping away.
My life was like a "Five Alarm Fire”… Making matters worse, I had to put out Paul’s random “fires” at an ever-increasing frequency! I was always off-balance, going to-and-fro — like a Chinese Fire Drill — frantically running around in circles.
Yep. It was a care-giver’s worst nightmare... Paul was jabbering — frothing away, with white powder pill-crumbs caking his mouth. Then Paul’s mouth stopped moving… Paul went limp and lapsed into unconsciousness.
I thought to myself: "He's really done it this time — surely he's done for!!"
There was no time to dress him — or wipe his face clean... The paramedic was barking orders, as I offered him a pair of sweat pants: "Sorry Lady! Move out of the way!! We have to get him to the hospital, before we lose him!!”
I watched helplessly, while they carried him away, as the ambulance sped away. The blaring sirens pierced the silence of my mind — tearing to shreds any sanity I had left.
Yep. All of the neighbors were gawking — not knowing who was being loaded up — or why. With no time to spare — I ran to get the bottle of the pills that he’d overdosed on — then high-tailed after the ambulance.

Stephanie A. Bridgeman is "The Innocent Bystander" and co-author of this two-part book:
"Its a Kind of a Funny Thing: That happened on the road to..."
The other co-author is her mother, Nancy L. Bridgeman "The Wimpy Caregiver", who taught her to read at the age of three. Stephanie has been awarded four U.S. patents: and her latest goal is to finalize another invention (besides writing more books).
Stephanie's Art-history degree from the University of California (Irvine) reveals a creative personality - she enjoys writing with her "Wimpy Caregiver" mother. Stephanie teaches many subjects to underprivileged children (for the "No Child Left Behind" program).
She has a lot of hobbies, including photographing people, pets, and exotic plumeria-plants from her mother's ("not-so-wimpy) plumeria-garden.

Nancy L. Bridgeman - "The Wimpy Caregiver" (and co-author) featured in this story - proves that it's never to late to learn: at forty years old, she graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.S. degree in Psychology.
She worked with her family (husband and four children) as a Real Estate agent; she became an inventor and was awarded five U.S. patents. Nancy is still active and happily married to her husband Jim for 57 years.
Her favorite hobby is tending to her garden of rare plumeria plants. Nancy often visits Oregon to visit her grandson and four great-granddaughters.
Nancy is a great role model - she shows that it is never too late to help others and enjoy life in the process.

Hilarious "Must Read" Real-Life Story

When I first got this book I thought it was a work of fiction. Turns out it is the true story of Nancy Bridgeman and Bronx blues-drummer, Paul Vincent Fasulo.
Paul moved into a basement suite of a building Nancy already lived in and as the story progresses, they get to know each other through a variety of both scary and funny encounters.
Paul had been accepted to go on a European Tour when he was diagnosed with liver cancer. He decided to go on the tour regardless, because it might be his last. When he got back from Europe, the doctors had bad news … he had less than a year to live.
Then, miracles of miracles he was accepted into a program at Cedars-Sinai, where he underwent an experimental treatment. It worked … for awhile. Then the cancer came back. His only hope? A liver transplant. The catch? He had to be accepted into the transplant program and HAD to have a caregiver.
Paul advertised for a caregiver with no success. Then he asked neighbor Nancy if she would help out.
Nancy said, YES. Neither one of them knew what that meant or how life changing it would be, not only for Paul but for Nancy.
The authors, Nancy Bridgeman and her daughter Stephanie Bridgeman did a masterful job of weaving together a story that is poignant, and funny. Through it all was the sobering reality of life with Cancer for both the patient and the caregiver. The life of a caregiver is hard and unforgiving. But in spite of this, the story was amazingly entertaining. The characters are real and funny. The situations they get themselves into are hilarious.
If you want to understand what a caretaker goes through, be sure to read this story. IF you want to be entertained by a real-life funny story you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Awesome Book: A Must Read

This is an amazing story that had me in stitches from start to finish. The authors definitely made their mark with this one. Started reading and couldn't stop until the end to find out what happened. I would so recommend picking this title to read cause it sure was "Kind of a Funny Thing" :-)
