the cats meow missing 3 other stories

For a short story it provided a lot. The story was set in the late 1800s where good vs evil and paranormal romance predominates the book. The author was able to provide enough background information that you felt you are reading a complete book. The author did leave an open door at the end if she wanted to continue the story as a series without leaving it with a cliffhanger. For that I am grateful I hate cliffhangers .The story was well written with minimal typos. I would recommend this book. I originally gave this book 4 stars but dropped a star when I went to look back at the cover. The book was an anthology it's missing 3 other stories that go the other cats. Now it makes sense to me about that backdoor I talked about because there was more to this story.

I loved this book it had all the great elements necessary to keep you reading well past the time anyone should be asleep. Great characters the good ones were real not sappy the bad ones made you want to smack them right along with the hero.

Why didn't they make me read *THIS* in school??

I've been a fan of John Wasserman's for years... so when he decided to release his first book, I figured I'd buy it first and figure out who to gift it to later. Umm, wow. Looking over this (and reading several chapters), I might need to buy multiple copies, not just for my college freshman brother-in-law, but for every young person that I give a rip about.

John's work covers everything from resumes, to interviews, to the first day in the workplace. He speaks from personal experience and uses hilarious stories (protecting the many guilty parties) to drive his points home. This book reads like a motivational speech without any of the self-congratulatory pats-on-the-back that some vaunted authors use to lengthen their page counts. John dives in and gets right to the point, which I (maybe not everybody) appreciated greatly.

My only criticism is that John may have been too niche minded in his thinking. Many of his best practices remain unknown and unfollowed by people with much more experience (re: age) under their belt. Of course John's two decades with Vector Marketing has given him a unique window into the minds and hearts of young people. The empathy he has is unquestionable. His desire to help, authentic.

There's a common perception that young people don't care about personal development, self-help, or skill increase. This perception is often held by adults (like me, who do jobs, like mine) who claim that young people only care about entertainment, their friends' newsfeeds, pics, snaps, etc. This type of mass stereotyping is not only lazy, it is dangerous. "We can't affect the next generation, so let's not even try." Young people like to be entertained (don't we ALL?) because they are bored. Bored of us lecturing at them. Bored of our retold stories. Bored of our cliches about friends jumping off cliffs, etc. We hated them as kids, swore we'd never be like that as adults, and now... here we are.

So yeah, young people are bored. And it's our fault. The solution (according to youth pastor, Scott Frazier) is to call them out of their boredom and hold them to a higher standard. Engage them. Challenge them. Teach them the problems they have before they have them, NOT in a lecturing way, but in a way that edu-tains. Don't call them out ON their boredom, call them out OF their boredom. This is exactly what John Wasserman does in NO SHORTS. And this is how all of us "wise" adults need to be thinking if we're going to leave our society better than how we found it.

Highly recommended!

I absolutely love this book. It's a very quick read but if you let it, it will guide you into how you should properly act in the corporate world. Even if you currently have a "real job" it's a nice reminder as to what to look for in people you are hiring, or even just in yourself. I am a young self contractor and I believe John knows how to connect with our generation to help us see the importance of our behavior and choices.

If you want to ace your next job interview you need to read this book!

The author has been helping young job-seekers get a start in life for more than twenty years. Although the book is geared more toward college-aged millennials, there is good information here for any age group. I was amazed by some of his stories about how unprepared many of the people he interviewed for jobs were when they walked in the door and sat down with him. But instead of dismissing them, Wasserman explains how he helped them get a start in life by teaching them how to find a good career in the outside world. This is an excellent book on how to present yourself in a job interview and how to write a resume that will get the attention it deserves.

Chapter 1: Introduction — In The Out door

There he was — one foot in, and one foot out of the bathroom door, mumbling incoherently, "LET ME IN.” Only problem was... he was neither locked in, nor out — and he was missing his pants.

Yep. He was half-naked with his vital-parts hanging out... while his vital-signs were slipping away.

My life was like a "Five Alarm Fire”… Making matters worse, I had to put out Paul’s random “fires” at an ever-increasing frequency! I was always off-balance, going to-and-fro — like a Chinese Fire Drill — frantically running around in circles.

Yep. It was a care-giver’s worst nightmare... Paul was jabbering — frothing away, with white powder pill-crumbs caking his mouth. Then Paul’s mouth stopped moving… Paul went limp and lapsed into unconsciousness.

I thought to myself: "He's really done it this time — surely he's done for!!"

There was no time to dress him — or wipe his face clean... The paramedic was barking orders, as I offered him a pair of sweat pants: "Sorry Lady! Move out of the way!! We have to get him to the hospital, before we lose him!!”

I watched helplessly, while they carried him away, as the ambulance sped away. The blaring sirens pierced the silence of my mind — tearing to shreds any sanity I had left.

Yep. All of the neighbors were gawking — not knowing who was being loaded up — or why. With no time to spare — I ran to get the bottle of the pills that he’d overdosed on — then high-tailed after the ambulance.

The other co-author is her mother, Nancy L. Bridgeman "The Wimpy Caregiver", who taught her to read at the age of three. Stephanie has been awarded four U.S. patents: and her latest goal is to finalize another invention (besides writing more books).

Stephanie's Art-history degree from the University of California (Irvine) reveals a creative personality - she enjoys writing with her "Wimpy Caregiver" mother. Stephanie teaches many subjects to underprivileged children (for the "No Child Left Behind" program).

She has a lot of hobbies, including photographing people, pets, and exotic plumeria-plants from her mother's ("not-so-wimpy) plumeria-garden.

Hilarious "Must Read" Real-Life Story

When I first got this book I thought it was a work of fiction. Turns out it is the true story of Nancy Bridgeman and Bronx blues-drummer, Paul Vincent Fasulo.

Paul moved into a basement suite of a building Nancy already lived in and as the story progresses, they get to know each other through a variety of both scary and funny encounters.

Paul had been accepted to go on a European Tour when he was diagnosed with liver cancer. He decided to go on the tour regardless, because it might be his last. When he got back from Europe, the doctors had bad news … he had less than a year to live.

The authors, Nancy Bridgeman and her daughter Stephanie Bridgeman did a masterful job of weaving together a story that is poignant, and funny. Through it all was the sobering reality of life with Cancer for both the patient and the caregiver. The life of a caregiver is hard and unforgiving. But in spite of this, the story was amazingly entertaining. The characters are real and funny. The situations they get themselves into are hilarious.

If you want to understand what a caretaker goes through, be sure to read this story. IF you want to be entertained by a real-life funny story you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Awesome Book: A Must Read

This is an amazing story that had me in stitches from start to finish. The authors definitely made their mark with this one. Started reading and couldn't stop until the end to find out what happened. I would so recommend picking this title to read cause it sure was "Kind of a Funny Thing" :-)

Samantha Moon and Moon River

In June 2012 I downloaded my first Samantha Moon book "Moon Dance" and fell in love with a character that was so real and loveable. I am an older person who was stuck reading paranormal books about young teenagers and here I had found a book about a married woman with 2 children. A woman I could relate with, a woman that made it seem like perhaps.. just perhaps.. vampires could be real and maybe not monsters after all.
I've religiously read every Samantha book since then. I've never been disappointed.

This book, Moon River, #8 in the series, did not disappoint. I found myself continuously thinking 'just a few more pages, then bed' .. um.. ok just a few more pages then bed.. You know how it is with a book that holds your interest. A book that always has something going on. Oh sure, I've read books that I've said, ok I'll read a few more pages just to see if it gets better. Let me say, this is NOT that kind of book. I love all the characters. The storylines have always held my interest.

The author, J.R. Rain, has a knack for describing things and people so that you can actually picture them. In stead of saying that Samantha drank a bag of blood.. he (yuck) describes the awful cow blood with grizzly pieces of bones, etc. that are also in the bag that you might actually flinch when Samantha has to drink one to prove to someone she is a vampire.

The only problem I had (and I always seem to have) is that I like the series so much, that I read the books as soon as they come out.. quickly without even sleeping.. and now I have to wait for the next one.
I feel like I should come out and say... Yes, my name is Jeanie, and I'm a Moonaholic!

Wow!! Way to go J.R. Rain!!

J.R. Rain has given us another great Samantha Moon story!! I always read these installments so quickly that I instantly get depressed that I have to wait for the next one and this was no different. These books are always filled with so much action and are so fast paced that , once I start reading, I have a heck of a time putting them down!

Samantha Moon, once again, finds herself in a life threatening situation. This time it hits too close to home when she finds her sister and ex-husband are being used as bait by some familiar characters to lure Samantha into a trap.

This is, quite possibly, one of the smartest books in the series. J.R Rain has raised the bar for any future installments in this series. There were many moments where I was borderline shocked at the events. I laughed, cried, and became irate as I got caught up in the emotional situations Sam found herself in. The ending is so bittersweet it left me with mixed emotions.

You'll also find a familiar character playing a role in this story. If you've read Rain's Knighthorse series, you'll know who it is immediately. That's always one thing I look forward to in all of J.R.'s books. I love how he ties his characters from other books into his stories. However, he does such a terrific job writing them into the plot that you don't have to have read the other books they were in to enjoy this book.

If you've read the other 7 books in the Vampire for Hire series, you won't want to miss out on this one. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did! Download it as soon as you possibly can!! You won't be sorry.

Great job J.R.!! As always, you took me on a thrilling adventure with Samantha and a roller coaster ride of emotions. I'll be waiting, not so patiently, for book #9!! Still a big fan for life!! Congrats on another fantastic book!!

Would recommend the book to anyone seriously over

Saw your review in HWY 280 news and after looking at your picture and what you did to lose weight, I bought the book. Now walking 5 miles or more each day, I have an incline trainer with I-FIT so I can walk at Oak Mountain Park without leaving home, in fact anywhere in the world. Started on January 4 and now at end of March have lost 45 pounds. Still trying to figure out why you were drinking OJ without the sugar spike. Would recommend the book to anyone seriously over weight

WOW! Loved it, gobbled it in one day! Set 300 years before Honor!

Wow... I WANT MORE! I have read, and often re-read, all the Honorverse books and stories. I'm not saying that all of them are perfect, they're not. But they're all—as far as I'm concerned—worth reading more than once (and only small percentage of the books I read make that list). But you don't need to have read any of the Honorverse books to understand or enjoy this one... It doesn't end in a cliff hanger but it does end with questions that will be answered in the next book in the series.

I'm not going to go through the plot except to say that this book is set pre-Manticore gates! That means no Honor Harrington, not even a smidgen. It's the beginning of a new story-line about the Star Kingdom and the early Royal Manticoran Navy. The Honor books begin around 1870 PD (Post-Diaspora). This book begins in 1529 PD!

For me this book is well written, interesting, full of action and characters to care about. And, although knowing what the future holds ads a bit to the reading, this book is the beginning of a standalone series. The combination of David Weber, Timothy Zahn and Tom Pope of BuNine (and NO this is NOT an anthology! It's a damned good novel!) is great! I've read, and appreciated, the stories Zahn has written of the Honorverse and I understand that Pope has been the keeper of the continuum of the Honorverse at BuNine. Read the foreword, it explains a lot and it's short!

Travis Uriah Long is a character that grows as you read the book, I want to know what happens to and around him! The early history of Manticore and the RMN is fascinating! If you get the feeling that I liked this book—YOU'RE RIGHT!

In case you're wondering, I bought this book as part of Baen Books Oct. 2014 bundle which means I got it on Sept. 16th and I gobbled it on Sept.16th! I think I need to go back and read it again (something almost never do)... I'm sure I was reading so fast that I missed some of the more subtle points. If I did, I shall add to this review.

Big Disappointment

I found this disjointed and disappointing. It is closer to David Drake than David Weber. Travis Long is totally shallow and insubstantial. The overwhelming negativity depicting the RMN beoomes both tedious and not believable. The jump from lazy poorly trained and poorly led to the professionalism described aboard the Horizon can't be swallowed whole. Add in the apparent professionalism of Prince Edward and the whole thing simply falls apart. I'm sorry. Weber and Zahn simply did not produce a book worthy of their names.

i have read many books by both Weber and Zahn, and know the caliber of their talent, and so am surprised they wrote this clunker. First off, the main character is too passive. Professor Xavier in his wheelchair got more into the action.It's really not Travis Long's fault, the authors painted him into a corner early on as an enlisted man who had brilliant out of the box notions, which he would tell to officers. The officers would order people to carry out the ideas, which they did. If this sounds clunky in description, it is more so on the page.

The second big problem which it never overcame is prequel syndrome. This book is like Attack of the Clones. You know Aniken will grow up, Obi-wan will try to put him down, and beat the snots out of him in an epic fight, and Darth Vader will be born. In the meantime we have to sit through 2 1/2 movies to get to that scene. That is how this book reads. You know the ending, and have to sit through the machinations to reach it. I just cannot suspend disbelief far enough to entertain that the RMN will be eliminated in favor of a costa garda.

The authors are supremely talented and could have delivered a better product.

Great for beginners

My wife read this, she say's: Not very long book, but very interesting. Includes historical uses of herbs and suggestions for recipes too. Good book for beginners.

Big declarative words like "cures" and no backing up of statements with research

Just downloaded it. Really not impressed at all. Big declarative words like "cures" and no backing up of statements with research. Grammar is poor and there is not any information about oil dilution. Given the title, I expected something a little more thorough and juicy. Not recommended for anyone, including beginners as there is no safety foundation to build from. There are many books out there worth your time and money that provide a basic understanding, clear data, safe usage and thorough steps. I have read student papers written in order to graduate from a well informed aromatherapy program that far exceed what is written here.
