About the Author
Zachary Duresky is a college graduate from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. He began writing in high school, where he mainly did poetry. In college he moved on to short stories and then eventually his first novel, "Desiree Fern" "Desiree Fern" is a personal accomplishment for Zachary Duresky. She is his favorite creation. She has always served as a symbol of comfort for him whenever he felt down. To him, she represents being who you are and not letting those around you control you. Zachary Duresky lives in Glen Allen, Virginia, where he enjoys the simple pleasures of films, television, books, good food, and writing of course. He comes from a loving family that has always been there to support him and love him. He has had to struggle through many aspects of life because he was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was six. But like Desiree, he made it through life his own way and made the best out of all life had to offer.

Hats off to Zachary Duresky!

First, let me say that it has taken me a great deal longer to consider how to write this review than it did for me to read the book. Next: The writer, Mr. Duresky has overcome incredible odds, and has accomplished something that I would think near impossible to do even though I am a writer and I don't live with Aspergers. It is scary to share your innermost secrets and the people you create in your heart. I have only published a few of my poems the rest of my writings remain too intimate and personal to me to share. So, many kudos to Mr. Duresky for having that courage! As for the book itself, the plot is an interesting one and a daring attempt at freeing a woman who, in her own time, would never have been freed from the rule of men. However, that being said, the period was poorly researched as was the attempts at writing in Old English. Desiree would have been tied to the whipping post, left to stand in the stocks in the town square, and even dunked in water while sitting in a chair that was held over the icy waters for her behaviors. Townspeople were required to go to church twice daily and the rules and laws were read at each sermon. Also poorly researched was the actual language and grammar of the times. The book would have been more agreeable had Mr. Duresky paraphrased in current English instead of writing the characters voices in the English used in the 1600's. It is a poor read, BUT again, my hat goes off to Mr. Duresky for his attempts at writing and publishing and encourage him to continue to do so.

Double Take Photo Book Paints
A Powerful Picture Of Growing Up

Photographer Maggie Evans Silverstein opened her portrait studio 20 years ago, and as the years passed, many of her clients returned to have their photos taken multiple times.

One particular client that stands out in Silverstein's memory is an 18–year–old boy who came to the studio for his senior portraits and then returned again 16 years later to take pictures with his young daughter. “I began to put these kinds of images side–by–side and stack them up,” the photographer told The Huffington Post in an email.

That's how Silverstein's photo book Double Take: Portraits Over Time came to be. The book showcases families and the way they change and grow over time through black and white portraits. The subjects are Silverstein's repeat clients—as well as her own family—including all 12 of her grandchildren.

Double Take also includes thoughts from the subjects Silverstein photographed over time. “When I closed the studio and the visual part of the project a few years ago, I went back to the growing up or grown up kids or their parents and asked them to look at their photographs and talk about childhood,” the photographer explained.

“One of the questions I would ask the parents was ‘What do you know now that you wish you had known then?’ I loved—and relate to—this answer from a wonderful father: ‘Everything,’” Silverstein said.

The photographer also drew inspiration for Double Take from Michael Apted's “Seven Up” series and Nicholas Nixon's yearly portraits of his wife and her three sisters. Maggie Evans Silverstein hopes that parents who see her portraits in Double Take will come out of it with this message: “[B]e in the moment. The ephemeral quality of childhood—of life itself, actually—doesn't begin to taunt us until we have the ability, and the courage, to look over a shoulder. Hindsight is more than 20/20. It's black–and–white, magnified and held captive by the click of a camera shutter.
Surely this is the essence of Maggie Evans Silverstein's Double Take: Portraits Over Time…a collection of 50 photo sets of children alone, children with siblings and children with parents. The Miami portrait photographer has frozen the evolution of childhood and delivered unrehearsed images of kids slipping into adult lives.
Each photo set is accompanied by a short commentary written either by the subject of the portrait, now no longer a child, or the subject's parents. Both the images and the written vignettes provide a sometimes wistful, sometimes funny, but always clear–eyed reflection of how certain moments, inside and out of Silverstein's South Miami studio, shaped . the lives of her subjects.

Stunning Photographs, Eloquent Prose

Maggie Silverstein’s sensibilities are shaped by enormous sympathy and insight, so that while she didn’t intend to take “beautiful” portraits, her subjects emerge as beautiful in the truth she has captured about them. This is especially true for the children-- Silverstein’s portraits are almost haunting, because they reveal something of the children’s essential selves. One keeps returning to them; first, the child, then the teenager, then back to the child. The writing, too, is excellent; I read the foreword twice because her insights resonated so much. Anyone who has known a child, raised a child, taught a child, or been a child will relate to this lovely book. The photographs are exquisite, but it is the juxtaposition of each subject at an early stage of life with what that child has become in the years to follow that makes this collection such a unique and special experience. Added to this pleasure are the quotes that accompany their photos: funny, poignant, and truthful observations made from the perspective of time.

AMAZING!

I have read all three novels, and both comic books along with the four Youtube videos under the title name and books. This writer keeps delivering and never lets you down, this series is a must read. This kind of imagination with real life story applications, just floors me time and again. I would love to see this on T.V. or Big screen. He even allows fans to have a chance to be written in as characters. Or vote for what kind of comic should be done next, revolutionary thinking to say the least. As I've had a chance to read his rare comic,"The Trials of Shabazz" just a great story. The Paradox of Pain's ending is so shocking and touching, that I cried truly a great read this writer is truly on his way. One word for it, AMAZING!

I've been a fan since Destiny VS. Chaos, and for starters, Mr. Kendrick showed his appreciation to his fans by having a contest in which the winners (I happen to be one of them) were included in his latest installment of the Destiny VS. Chaos series, The Paradox of Pain. Mr. Kendrick has done it yet again. The Paradox of Pain has it all. The intense action, drama, love interest, and an unexpected event to say the least. The real life issues really brings his characters to life and make them easy to relate to. Once again, I wasn't ready for the book to end, and I'm still on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's going to happen next. Keep up the great work Mr. Kendrick, and I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us next.

A Strong Heroine and Great Story!

I really haven't read any historical romance novels in quite some time although I've continued to add them to my reading lists and piles. Laurel O'Donnell is an author who I've wanted to read for a very long time. I had high hopes for this book and they were met.

I quite like heroines who are feisty, and Layne is the epitome of that. I love how she was observant, quick witted, and talented in jousting and swordplay, everything a lady should not be. I also loved how she was with her brothers and the way they treated her as one of them, even though she was a girl. I loved Layne's strong sense of honor; she placed a very high value on it. Griffin I liked from the beginning as well. I guess it was more his (mostly) misguided sense of chivalry and his pre-prescribed role for females. I think he would've done much better had he listened to Layne from the beginning of the book. They were both wonderful together.

The story really impressed me. It's unique and yet still has almost everything a conventional historical romance novel has. I was hoping for more closure with Griffin's brother and his wife. I was a but taken aback when all these other family members appeared all of a sudden, but Laurel introduced them in a way my fears soon disappeared. The story has no slow points and jumps from one point to another very quickly. I read this book just as fast as I could. The mystery was really well written and kept me guessing as to who was the coward in question.

Another thing that really surprised me was the amount of emotional attachment I formed with the characters, not just Layne and Griffin, but also her brother's Cole, Frances, and Michael. I love that parts of the story were told from their points of view. It added something extra to the story. Now that I've read my first Laurel O'Donell novel, I know it won't be my last.

Lovely Romance

A very sweet romance about an unconventional lady and the knight who loved her, My Noble Knight was a fantastic historical romance. It was a lovely read and I really liked it.

Layne was a wonderful heroine. Definitely unconventional, with her tendency to disdain dresses and liking for swords. She could be a bit reckless but, overall, she was a strong and interesting character that I liked.

Griffin was great as well. He was sweet and the epitome of honorable. He could be rather oblivious about certain things. But, I thought he was a sweetie and I really liked him as well.

The romance was lovely. I thought they were very sweet together, especially with how Griffin love Layne because of her quirks, not in spite of them. I thought they were a perfect couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was totally engaged the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story and ht ending was perfect.

My Noble Knight was a lovely, sweet, delightful romance that I really liked. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to check out.

Oh how I just loved this book -- with just a few pages in it just zinged for me! I really loved Griffin's character. He is such a honorable person, definitely one that I would want for my knight in shining armor. Also what I like about the book is how Layne's relationship with her brothers is portrayed -- how they teased her like normal siblings do and that it wasn't written with old medieval English, not that I mind that in some books, it's just flows better for me with modern English. I'm so glad that I bought this book and gave it a try, didn't regret it one bit plus the cover is lovely to look at as well.

Emotional and just plain fun

There are 2 stories in one with Buchanan's "Wind Walker", and they are both just plain fun to read. The title story is a short ode to Lovecraft (a vasty overused and cliche comparison, but hey, the man did create an entire sub-genre on his own) that reads fast and, again, is just a fun way to spend a half hour.

But it's the second story, "Everett Smiles," where Buchanan's talent really shines. The writing is powerful without crossing into forced cheese, and he gives us a protagonist we immediately give a damn about and root
for. The ending is absolutely perfect, and this is a story I will be reading again. You know, for fun.

The second story was so good that I had to go back and look to see what the first story was about! The first was alright, but that next one was really good! Yep, I'd recommend this book and author.

I really liked the “cool velvet” explanation of calm after intense pain

Wind Walker consists of three short stories; one is stand alone and the last two are linked by a character. All of them have a similar feel and theme; death, apocalyptic, cannibalism and monsters.

I found the writing style to be very dark but exceptionally descriptive, add in the clipped, direct narration of Carrie Buchanan and I kept rewinding to ensure I had heard what she said; the ewww moments were really horrifying.

The first story is Wind Walkers; a man learns he is the harbinger/catalyst for monsters to rise on a snowy mountain side in Wales. His inner monologue of fears and memories interspersed with the dialogue with his children allowed for characterisation and a connection with them as a family.

I really liked the “cool velvet” explanation of calm after intense pain. My only negative would be the alternating of PoV was a little confusing when listening to the audio version, but when read I was able to slow and repeat paragraphs.

The second two stories were linked by a character; the narrator is left alone in a shopping mall whilst the world outside is filled with monsters. I did wonder if they were all linked as the season is winter with snow and ice and both talk of a rift.

Sam the floating corpse will stay with me for a while, she was so vivid, even in death NB gave her a brilliant back story. Another negative amongst all this praise would be the use of “diapers”; clearly set in the UK why use an American word?

There is an abundance of flesh, blood and gore, eyeballs hanging and bits being cleaved or munched off. The shock value is obviously there but NB writes with such substance and palpability that even the simplest of phrases made me wince eg the eye ball stalk!

All the endings were very sorrowful and pessimistic, no happy endings here, horah for some dirty horror. Loved the gruesome, creepy unrelenting nature of these stories and cannot wait to read more from this author!

Growing up abroad as an Army “brat” granted Jason Surlock a unique perspective on life and culture. Bouncing around countries left little time for friends. Sexy, Powerful, and Compelling Vampire Fun. What a great read!!

This book rocked! I can't wait for the next one. Characters are fun, sexy, and well developed. The banter between Christopher (main character) and the supporting characters are funny and realistic while they take you along an investigation and vampire extermination journey into the shady side of Chicago. Combat sequences are epic and you can picture perfectly the action in your mind’s eye. This author writes vampires just as violent and dark as Anne Rice meets Bram Stoker.

A fresh take on vampires!

I was turned onto this book while looking for a fresh take on fantasy/vampire and was pleasantly surprised. Couldn't stop reading and polished it off in a handful of days. The mix of action, character development and plot was spot on and I enjoyed the relationship build between Chris, his VEST team, and the atypical ‘damsel in distress’. I don’t want to ruin the cliff-hanger, but it was amazing! Book two please!!

For a debut book, this is an amazing job. Jason pulls you in from the beginning and makes you feel like you are living the experience. Sure it's about vampires, but there is just enough of the normal vampire stuff to keep you wondering where he is making this stuff up, while still having the right balance of a new twist on the old stuff.
