A wonderful first novel, from a young author who shows great promise.
By Botsgirl90
I was able to read an advance copy of this book, and i was blown away by the maturity of the writing. It's hard to believe the author is only sixteen. The characters are fully developed and relatable, especially Shrea. Her cynical, world-weary exterior hides a tender heart and compassionate nature, and she has boundless patience for her motley assortment of traveling companions. She is neither a shrinking violet nor a perfect Disney princess, but a strong-willed girl with faults and virtues, just like everyone else. In the land of Herethea, Angela M Ross has created a magical new world, filled with fascinating creatures, and I can't wait for Journey of the Soul Volume 2, so I can return there once again.

This is a Keeper!
By Robert Ross
This is the first book of this genre that I have read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Angela writes in such a way that you can visualize everything and feel as if you are sharing in Shrea's quest. I enjoyed the book so much that I read it twice, and got more out of it the second time. I am anxiously looking forward to reading the next installment.

A Civilian for Silo: A Hellion MC Novel, by J.A. Hornbuckle

It started with a one-night stand…
Within just a few hours of meeting, Silo Kettering and Shelly Palmer were in bed together. It was a special night, an amazing evening of shared passion between the socialite and the Hellion biker. But it was supposed to have been just an enjoyable one-off since Shelly had to get back to Albuquerque and extradite both herself and her sister, Lulu, from the mess their father had made.

And a promise to call if help was needed.
Silo had made Shelly vow to call him if she encountered any trouble, never realizing that just ten short months later, his would be the only phone number she remembered when she was hurt and broken. But it’s hard, if not impossible, to help and provide safety when you have no idea who or what you’re fighting besides your own heart and feelings. And as Silo discovers, the only thing preventing him from falling head over heels is the little spit-fire’s opinion of both him and herself.

From the author of ‘Hiding in Plain Sight’, ‘The Possibility of Trey’, ‘Reinventing Mel’ and ‘Taking a Dare’ comes Book 4 in the Hellion Motorcycle Series, exploring Silo’s story and his reconnecting with the irrepressible Shelly.

Often you have to get out of your own way−in order to let love in.

**Intended for mature audiences only (18+) due to strong language and sexual situations**

Loved Silo
By JudyB
Another good book in the Hellions series. Silo has been one of my favorite characters since the beginning of the series. He's loud mouthed, brash and has absolutely no filter on his mouth. He's big, awkward and has some serious self esteem issues that he covers with his brash outspoken manner. The man can't say three words without using the f bomb. But then he's got that sweet side and is totally alpha protective male when it comes to women. Shelley, the h, is a the personification of the rich bitch that can't see herself in a long term setting with the common folks in the Hellions. But she falls and falls hard but not before I wanted to slap her more stupid for continually turning Silo away. It's a sweet love story with a hero you can't help but like. It's got the angst and suspense with a plot of saving the damsel and protecting the club from known enemies. A HEA and no cheating at all. This one was a 4.5 for me but I went ahead with the 5 star rating. It's not gritty and raw, more on the MC lite than anything else but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

LOVED the H--h, not so much
By JJH
3 1/2-4 stars. I thought the story as a whole was rather entertaining, but I definitely liked the second half more than the first. This was mostly because it took me a while to warm up to the h. I absolutely did not like her for a good part of the book. I actually thought it started out very promising, with the h suffering from a traumatic experience, and the H coming to the rescue, but once the H and h started interacting, my feelings changed. There are times when she acts like ungrateful, stuck-up and snobby. She does keep her comments to herself, but I could have done without her inner dialogue. The h, Shelly, does apologize to Silo, saying she can't control her emotions due to the trauma/drama she went through, but it was weird for me. She is also supposed to be this refined, high class woman, yet she acts really crass--fights with Silo, and curses like crazy--the personality was just too all over the place. She does come around, but it takes a long time. Silo, on the other hand, was incredible sweet and patient. I actually enjoyed his character more than I expected to--he may be my favorite H of the series. There were times I felt sorry for him for having to put up with Shelly, and felt HE deserved better than HER. Plot line moved along nicely. Only issue I had with this was there was a subplot with a crazy FBI stalker that seemed to be disjointed from most of the plot, and then ended strangely. I don't really feel the story would have been affected if this was removed. Secondary characters--most of which we met in previous books--were fun, and added a lot to the story. Writing style is pretty much what I expected from this author. Easy to read, much more on the "fluffy" side of the MC spectrum. IMO, the characters in the series still ACT like tough guys, instead of actually BEING tough guys. I mostly sense this in their dialogue. I think the reader will probably enjoy this book if they are a fan of the series--but it definitely can be read as a stand alone story.

Sweet, not the right word for most biker books but this one has the rough bikers who are savvy legit business owners. They're crude but mainly a big loving got your back club. Can't wait for Bishop 's book, I'm worried about him.

Review by Maureen Bowden
By mr david w bowden
The anthology is varied and a lot of fun.
Siobhan Gallager's 'Blade Between Oni and Hare' flings the reader into Japanese mythology with her protagonist facing a demonic love triangle. A different take on Japanese myth is Gustavo Bondoni's 'Rain Over Lesser Boso', an disturbing tale of demons and an ancient empire.
Iain Ishbel's alternate history fantasy 'HMS Invisible and the Halifax Slaver' envisages sorcery versus the slave trade.
'Beyond the Turning Orrery' by Deborah Walker, has echoes of Icarus flying towards the sun, seeking the truth about the cosmos in a mechanical world.
Manuel Royal's 'Heart Shaped' doesn't hold out much hope for an amnesty in the war of the sexes.
Norse mythology makes three appearances. In Jordan Ashley Moon's 'A Wolf is Born', a son of Odin is made and unmade by his god. Steve Coate's Freya story, 'The Fortunate Son', is one of misogyny and maternal sacrifice. Jo Walton's poem, 'Odin on a Tree' presents a different aspect: paternal need and duty.
Martin Clark's 'steam-punk and time travel story, 'Through an Ocular Darkly' could be the first chapter of a novel. What happens next? I asked the same question about Daniel Coble's gripping account of monsters on the mountain, 'Assault on the Summit'.
Ben Soloman's 'Damfino Plays for Table Stakes' puts a demonic slant on the St Valentine's day massacre.
Margarita Tenser's delicious slice of Flash Fiction, 'The Committee', is one of my favourites. I've met human equivalents of the Great God Mellor Anaimos Lord of Hadros, Keeper of the Minutes in numerous management meetings over the years. Thanks, Margarita, for a much needed laugh.
Adria Laycroft's 'The Perfection of the Steam-Powered Armour' is a morality tale about a child who is wiser than the father. I felt that the father's conversion was a little too sudden, but it's a moving story, nevertheless.
There are two Tolkienesque spoofs here. I've read stories similar to Elliotte Rusty Harold's 'Refusing the Call', but it's still very funny. Jake Teeny's 'Toward the Back' is an epic battle from the point of view of the orcs. Little sweeties they are, too.
In Marissa James' 'The Blue Cap' a fantastic lost and longed for world could either be real or a psychotic hallucination. Maybe one doesn't necessarily preclude the other.
Alison Bain's 'The Lost Children' is a new take on the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. I would have liked a happy ending for 'the children' but that's just me.
Patricia S Brown's 'Great Light's Daughter' is a beautifully written creation myth.
Stephen D, Rogers' 'Qinggong Ji' employs Chinese mythology to tell a familiar story of villagers saved from bandits. The saviour is not Yul Brynner & co, but a miraculous child at one with nature.
Robin Wyatt Dunn's 'On a Train With a Coyote Ghost' is a many faceted parable about a ten -year-old Polish Jew, travelling through Eastern Europe with a coyote ghost from Arizona. They seek the mysterious 'Worker', a Jewish Buddhist who lives in the dome of a Catholic church in Russia. They each tell him their story, and he decides to which of them he'll give the magic broth that will restore their family to health. The story encompasses politics, human conflict, and military might, It creates uncertainty as to whether religion is an attempt to be at one with the Godhead or a comfort zone of shared history and tradition. The story requires and deserves more than one reading.

A thoroughly enjoyable collection of fantastic, eclectic short fiction.
By Sheryl Normandeau
Got a moment to spare for some amazing fiction long on the grand sense of epic tradition but short on word count? There’s something in Abbreviated Epics for everyone – seriously. The diversity of the nineteen stories in form, genre, and subject makes this new anthology from Third Flatiron Publishing a reader’s delight.
As you might expect, mythology is represented in a big way. In “Blade Between Oni and Hare,” Siobhan Gallagher takes the rabbit figure popular in Asian myth and offers up a highly satisfying twist on tradition, while Gustavo Bordani‘s breathtakingly-captured post-apocalyptic world in “Rain Over Lesser Boso” is fraught with ghosts. In addition to stories drawn from Japanese and Chinese culture, Nordic influences have their part: the strength and courage of the female heroine in Steve Coate’s “Fortunate Son” are particularly heart-wrenching, and Jo Walton’s poem “Odin on the Tree” hearkens back to the old sagas.
I’m a big fan of humorous fantasy, so Margarita Tenser’s flash piece “The Committee” was right up my alley. It’s an uproariously hilarious creation story, and a definite standout for readers who love an intelligent laugh. The merriment continues with the only-slightly-longer “Heart-Shaped,” Manuel Royal’s ferociously clever interpretation of the battle of the sexes, and Jake Teeny’s “Toward the Back, a guffaw-worthy romp about two orcs that aren’t quite as lustful for battle as they’re usually made out to be.
Maybe steampunk is more your thing? Treat yourself to Martin Clark’s “Through an Ocular, Darkly,” featuring two of my favourite subjects: time travel and political intrigue. (I’m totally stoked by the assurance that we’ll get to see more of the fascinating, enigmatic character of Dr. Leon Prinz somewhere, sometime!).
And then there’s the really dark stuff: horror in the classic vein in Daniel Coble’s “Assault on the Summit,” where an adventurer gets more than he bargained for in the Himalayas, and Robin Wyatt Dunn’s gut-checking “On a Train with a Coyote Ghost,” set in war-ravaged Eastern Europe.
A thoroughly enjoyable collection of fantastic, eclectic short fiction.

A great variety of stories
By Robina Williams
This anthology opens with an interesting and enlightening introduction by the Editor, Juliana Rew. As usual with Third Flatiron anthologies, there is a wide range of stories in the fields of sci-fi, fantasy and mythology, set in various geographical locations and eras. As usual also, there are some very nice graphics; I particularly liked those accompanying Deborah Walker's "Beyond the Turning Orrery," Gustavo Bondoni's "Rain Over Lesser Boso," Elliotte Rusty Harold's "Refusing The Call," and Robin Wyatt Dunn's "On a Train With a Coyote Ghost."

The book opens and closes with animal tales. Siobhan Gallaher's "Blade Beween Oni and Hare," features a shipwrecked Japanese girl who, having survived a struggle at sea with a squid, almost falls prey on land to a monstrous half-human spider. Having escaped the spider, she finds herself being watched by a white hare. The hare, guardian of the island, offers to help her reach the mainland. The hare is, of course, other than he first appears, and exacts a price from her, but he keeps his side of the bargain.

I had not really understood what "steampunk" was until I read Martin Clark's "Through An Ocular, Darkly." In this story, set in Constantinople, Leon Prinz, an inventor, has been commissioned by Josephus the Pharisee to build an automaton to protect the Jewish temple. But Prinz has already accepted a bribe from an emissary from General Gordon, who wants Josephus out of the way. Josephus had asked Prinz to construct a golem for him. Instead he finds that Prinz has built for him a lifesize ballerina--dismissed by an angry Josephus as "a toy." The "toy" takes a dainty dancing step and strikes Josephus dead. Gordon hasn't quite finished with Prinz, however. He asks a favor of him: to inspect an item that he will send over. Prinz unwraps the package, and finds a complicated mechanical device inside it. The device has a most surprising action. I wasn't too sure of the chronology of this interesting and enigmatic story but then I am not an historian.

The membership of "The Committee," in Margarita Tenser's humorous story is made up of a fascinating collection of gods, goddesses and godlings, all rejoicing in wonderfully appropriate cosmic names, for this is the Creationist Committee, and what they are seeking to create is a--or, perhaps, the--universe. After much squabbling and rejected ideas, and as they have a deadline to work to, the suggestion is made to stuff everything into a tiny dot and then explode it. This is such a witty little story.

The beautifully written final story, "On a Train with a Coyote Ghost," by Robin Wyatt Dunn, provides an excellent ending to the compilation. In it, a ten-year-old Jewish girl travels by train from Poland into Russia to try to find the healer who can provide the broth that she knows will save her grandmother and their fellow villagers, for their community has fallen ill. The child is accompanied by a coyote ghost who was a friend of her father. When she locates the healer, a somewhat multi-denominational entity, she finds to her dismay that the coyote also wants the broth, for his own benefit. The girl and the coyote ghost each has to tell their story to the healer, who will then choose between them; each tale is fascinating and moving and of historical import. This story provides a most fitting conclusion to this anthology of Abbreviated Epics.

Too Big to be Legal - Your Mandated Health Insurance, by Frank H. Lobb

This is a book that literally blows the lid off the deliberate misrepresentation and fraud in our mandated health insurance and lays it out for all to see - Mr. and Mrs. Average Citizen, the courts, judges, and attorneys, politicians, hospitals, doctors, state insurance regulators, and all those involved with the managed care-care health insurance industry. But most important, the book arms the individual enrollee in these plans with the knowledge they need to retain a private and personal doctor-patient relationship, get the care and coverage they have been promised, and legally refuse the grossly inflated hospital bills that have become all too common. It's a one-of-a-kind book the insurance industry hopes you never read.

Exposing the Health Care Fraud
By Paul
This is a book that everyone who has health insurance should read. I can't say it any better than the book description: This is a book that literally blows the lid off the deliberate misrepresentation and fraud in our mandated health insurance and lays it out for all to see - Mr. and Mrs. Average Citizen, the courts, judges, and attorneys, politicians, hospitals, doctors, state insurance regulators, and all those involved with the managed-care health insurance industry. Too Bad to Read
By Max Bower
Poorly written, tedious, meandering drivel. I got this book because the "author"( I use this term loosely) is a local business man in my community and I thought it would be an interesting read. Although I agree with the man on a few points, this book is just a mess. His could be reasonable arguments are poorly reasoned with little to no facts to back them up. He clearly has a lot of knowledge of healthcare issues, but very little thoughtful insight about these issues or has failed at communicating any. We live in an age where anyone with means can self publish and this can be a good thing or, as in this case, a bad thing. I feel for the trees who gave up living for this borish tome when they could have done better for humanity as toilet paper. I put it down after 100 pages. I wish I could get those three hours of my life back.

has some very good arguments to make about important issues pertaining to health ...
By Daniel A. Rich
The book's author, whom I know and with whom I have had many discussions, has some very good arguments to make about important issues pertaining to health care "insurance." Frank argues that health care insurance is not really insurance at all when compared to other types of traditional insurance - it works on a totally different model and always has. Frank points out that health insurance has traditionally been regulated by the states in our country and all the insurers incorporate the "employee hold harmless clause" in their contracts and that the states make this clause pretty much impossible for an ordinary citizen to see. He feels that this is fraudulent and duplicitous. Frank argues that the ACA brings the federal government into a realm that had always been the jurisdiction of the states and that there is a basic legality issue here that no one else has addressed. In our discussions both of us have come to the conclusion that, while the federal government certainly is far from perfectly efficient, a single payer system based of a model like Medicare would be cheaper for patients and most effective at bringing down the excessively high current cost of health care. This, however, would cut into the profits of hospitals, other providers, insurers etc. and be smeared with charges of socialism and consequently impossible to ratify by our congress. Incidentally, Mr. Lobb comes from a family that has traditionally been republican and he himself has been a life long republican. For what it's worth, I'm personally a little more of an independent.

Not a favorite.
By Del James
I normally love this author's books. I'm a loyal fan of her Otherworld series. This one, I couldn't even finish. Too dark and twisted for me, though people who like the Criminal Minds and Dexter TV shows might like it. Or people who like the Fifty Shades of Grey book series. Otherwise, Not recommended.

Review
"I wish I’d had this book when I began my teaching career many years ago. It is written in a practical, easy-to-understand format with multiple examples and recommendations. This book should be given to every new teacher as soon as they sign their teaching contract. While it is written specifically for teachers, I think everyone could benefit from the author’s knowledge." (Cathy D. Hicks, Induction Program Director 2010-02-22)

"Siciliano’s gem of a book is crammed with sage financial advice on topics as far-ranging as budgets and financial goal setting, estate planning, and tips on playing the stock market. Siciliano really knows his stuff, and he writes with such calm, good-natured authority on the full range of financial topics, in a style that is so relaxed and easy going, that you can’t help but feel that you are getting top-notch financial advice from a favorite uncle. He reminds us that we need to approach financial planning the way we approach teaching: clear-eyed, armed with facts, and with our eyes on the prize." (Janet Carroll, District Principal of Human Resources 2010-02-22)

From the Author
You are in a magnificent profession - the teaching of our children. The role of the teacher, in my opinion, is one of the most valuable in our society. For those of us who are raising children, a caring teacher is far more important than the quarterback on Sunday's televised football game. Yet the average salary of a professional football player in 2009 is estimated to be seventeen times the average teacher's salary. A survey by the American Federation of Teachers in 2005 found virtually the same numbers, indicating essentially no growth in the intervening years.

As this was written teachers are being furloughed and new hiring frozen all over the country as part of some school districts' efforts to compensate for drastically reduced funding. We value our teachers so much that teaching is consistently in the top ten of most respected professions. Yet we consistently turn down bond measures for educational improvements across the country. Many school systems throughout the nation are so anxious to attract teachers that some will even pay off student loans to get the teachers. Yet elsewhere teachers are losing their jobs because of money shortages in their districts.

We can't change that overnight, unfortunately. My hope is we can change it during your career so you can see the fruits of that greater respect translating into greater compensation for every good/dedicated/committed teacher. However while we're hoping, and hopefully writing to newspaper editors, state  and federal legislators and school board presidents, you need to create a life for yourself and your family, and to make it work financially with what you have and what you're earning today.

For most Americans, finance is a foreign language. For non-financial professionals the education in finance might have been a college course or two, most of it having nothing to do with the personal financial affairs that figure so prominently in our lives. Teachers and college instructors at all levels are not much different in that regard from the rest of the country. Yet your personal finances are one of the most important matters you must deal with in your life, and much of it will help determine whether your life will be well provided for or a constant struggle to make ends meet. This is not a good set of options for someone in such an important career. Perhaps if this were a more socialist society the government would have made all teachers wards of the state and you'd have nothing to worry about (or to hope for, not incidentally). Since America is a free society with a capitalist economy, you are left to make your own mistakes and learn as you go along. Corwin Press and I both think that you deserve better, and that's why this book was written.

If there's one thing that education has taught us, it's that we don't have to learn everything the hard way. My dad taught me how to ride a bike so I wouldn't fall so often learning by myself. Learning to count when I started school made it much easier to do math when that became important soon thereafter. I believe the tools and explanations in this book will help you in a very significant way to get a head start on mastering your finances and building your own personal wealth. That doesn't mean I'm promising you a retirement villa in Italy and a summer place in the Hamptons, but it does mean this: if you use the lessons in this book you will be well on your way to maximizing your opportunities to live a comfortable life and a secure retirement. That to me is financial mastery.

My business is helping non-financial people learn the power of financial tools to improve their lives and businesses. I work with CEOs of companies and the managers within those companies. I speak to small business owners all across the country who rely on their businesses to support their families and the families of their employees. The focus is always to help clients and audiences learn the tools, help them learn how and when to use them, and guide them in making it work for them every day. And then I write to make the same tools available to people who can't hire my company's financial experts or participate in one of my workshops.

If you buy this book (and I hope you will), consider that you are in a personal workshop dedicated to honoring your profession and helping you to be appropriately compensated for all your hard work and dedication to our children. Thank you.

Sound Knowledge About Personal Finance
By S. Sharp
This is a clear, pragmatic guide to most everything in personal finance that teachers need to know. The author describes how to think about your paycheck, how to deal with family finances, how to set up a personal business plan, and more. Want to own a company? There's a chapter on that. Want to build a house? There a chapter on that.

He dots his chapters with easy to understand tables, and every chapter ends with a summary of key points covered. There is a discussion on ways to plan - with a heavy emphasis on PLAN - for retirement, mortgages, savings, investment, and how to manage debt. Best of all, he really does talk to teachers.

But, even if you are not a teacher, this book is invaluable as a tool to understand a little more about the stock market, bonds, mutual funds, investment real estate, taxes and tax planning. This is truly a book detailing years of accumulated wisdom, and if you're serious about getting your finances in better shape, this is a book you want to have in your library.

It is a book about money for those teachers just starting out, and those who nearer to the next stages of their lives. It is filled with tips for anyone looking for sound knowledge about personal finance.

Helpful Advice for those who need it!
By Paul Houston
Gene Siciliano has written a book that is clear, interesting and helpful to a group who need it--educators. As a life-long educator myself I know that we, as a breed, tend to worry more about others than we do ourselves. That means that we don't take care of the things we should. In this case, we don't know all we should about managing our money and the implications for our decisions. Sicilicano has filled that void for educators. I think the only problem with the book is the title because it isn't just for the career teacher it is also for all those educators who work long hours for little compensation. It gives clarity on how they might do a better job of managing what they have. Thank you, Mr. Siciliano for making this possible!

Not just for teachers
By Don S
Author Gene Siciliano's new book fits the style of all of Gene's articles and his first book, Finance for Non-Financial Managers: clear, concise, and easy and fun to read, despite the fact that it deals with a very serious topic -- personal financial planning and management. While targeted to teachers, most of the strategies and advice apply to anyone, not just teachers. If you're a teacher, by all means, read this book and apply its wisdom. And even if you're not a teacher, there's plenty you can learn from it.

Secrets of the White Lake: Wind Shadow Chronicles (Book 1) (Volume 1), by Daniel Chong

Wind Shadow Chronicles is a profound and imaginative fantasy book-series that challenges the proverbial questions of faith, science and morals. It meticulously depicts a dark and unforgiving world where hope must be restored. The story moves at a brisk pace, unveiling heightened mysteries and revelations that captures the reader’s imagination. The first book, Secrets of the White Lake, take place in a post-apocalyptic world, where a mysterious aurora hovers in the sky like a beacon, silently, eloquently. To some the mysterious lights were nothing more than a natural phenomenon while others saw religious manifestations. But for an old Indian shaman it was a prophetic sign that his seventh year has passed. Reluctantly, he must return the children back to a ravaged world—this is their journey home.

Review
They say you can't judge a book by its cover. Well, 'Secrets of the White Lake' may be the exception. The cover is striking, and what follows doesn't disappoint. It's a real-page-turner that will appeal to young adults and older readers alike. Although not this reader's preferred genre or usual reading fare, book one in 'Wind Shadow Chronicles' left me wanting more. Without a doubt, it is a superb introduction to the series and I'm looking forward to book two. All in all...a superior fantasy/sci-fi novel.                                       -Sterling Gate Books

I cannot wait for the next instalment and strongly recommend this story to any reader who enjoys superior fantasy and sci-fi.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoy reading a fantasy/science fiction novel. Although my primary readers were young adults, I've also received many positive feedbacks from grownups.

About the Author
How I got the crazy ideal to write.
In 1986, when my son was four years old, I had created a flimsy sketchbook, My Dear Old Bed for his birthday. I had no idea how much it had meant to him until November 1st, 2004, when the subject of the sketchbook came up again. Come to find out, he'd kept it in his safekeeping for the last eighteen years. And so on his 23rd birthday, I made a promise to my son. And that promise was to turn that flimsy sketchbook into a real book. I had plans to create a book for my daughter too. Then I thought it would make more sense to combine both books together. I would draw on my memories from all the nighttime stories that I had told them when they were toddlers to create the book.

As a graphic designer / illustrator, a picture book was what I had intended. It would be a true picture book with no words. But fate is a funny thing; halfway through the project I realized--I wasn't able to finish the book without words, so I started to write, I had given myself a week to complete the project. Little did I know, the journey would take me a lot longer than I had anticipated, on January 2014 Secrets of the White Lake (the first book) was finally completed.

Exciting and fascinating so far...
By Jason Perryman
Where I am now (halfway) this book is a very easy, fast and exciting read. Lots of imagination, intense action and far out fantasy being incorporated into a very warm story about love, friendship, and family. I'm picking up a lot of themes about spirituality and the afterlife as well as about mankind's own self destructive nature plunging us into a post apocalyptic state with some crazy creatures, nutty sci-fi technology and strange people running about, plus we also have some mysterious lifeforms up in the neon coloured sky to deal with, that could be aliens or some higher existence! (Lots of Wow here!) So some serious and crazy questions are being asked here as well as some edge of seat dangers to overcome - so it seems there's much more excitement to be discovered which gives this story a real furious urge to be read. This has been one fascinating and incredibly enjoyable book so far as such intriguing and important, sacred questions are being discussed along with adrenalin fuelled confrontations, but all this wrapped up in a story about innocence (the 2 main characters), and everything is so simply and straightforwardly written that it doesn't make your head work too hard to understand some challenging subject matters or some imaginative fantasy action. I can't wait to see what happens on the next 10 or so pages, let alone what happens at the end. This is a real fast page turner so far. If the rest of the book holds up then it's well worth a read for anyone else, because the novel deals with questions that we all ask ourselves about this world we live in, along with scenes of eye popping wonder and exhilerating encounters, but as everything is described in such a simple to understand way, I think adults and children will get an equal kick out of it. So far, I think this is a book you should check out.

... not read many Sci-Fi books but this one was recommended from a family memeber
By Jon Mullaly
I do not read many Sci-Fi books but this one was recommended from a family memeber. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The attention to detail in the characters, the scenes and the outcomes was amazing. If all Sci-Fi books are written this well I might read more of them. Good read!

Enjoyable!
By Megan Dent Nagle
I was unusually suprised by this book. The plot begins kind of slow but quickly gains momentum as the reader learns more and more about the world the two main brother and sister characters are living in. For a post-apocalyptic novel, it is very believable. I liked how the to main characters were part of an Indian tribe, and Miya's special gift only adds to the mysteriousness of the story. Mr. Chong is a very imaginative writer, and his descriptions of the forest and mountains really made me feel like I was there. By the end of the book, I was truly involved in the characters and what was happening to them. I'd recommend this book to anyone likes action adventure/sci fi.
