First off, I love how this book has been organized. I think the information was precise, to the point and easy to understand. My mother, who is a diabetic, was thrilled to read it! Definitely recommended to people who want to know more about diabetes and how to manage it :)

Read your way to prevent diabetes!!!

I'm at risk for diabetes due to family history, so I've always been interested in learning about prevention. A must read for those wanting good information to live a better life. Diabetes can be caused from a person’s diet, so it makes since that it can be reversed by eating healthier foods. I really liked how the author lists each super food and explains how each one is beneficial in treating diabetes, as well as, what types of vitamins it contains. You just may need to put down that burger and fries to do it. Great job Stephanie Coldwell! An amazing book you wrote. So I highly recommend buying this book and enjoying your life!!!

Righting the Wrongs

Kenneth Rawson, Baron Berwick, needs to marry an heiress to save his home and lands which are in financial ruins. His mother does not want him to marry and her lose her title and standing as Baroness. Samantha Jenkins is all alone in the world after losing her parents in a house fire. She is dodging the landlord who claims he is owed money. Finding an abandoned cottage and making it her home, she has managed to stay out of the clutches of the landlord. Cutting her hair and disguising herself as a young boy she secures the position of stable boy. Secrets will be revealed, lovers will hurt each other, long lost family will be found, society will take notice. It's hard to unring a bell and undo what has already happened. Rumors are spread and cause scandal. Can Kenneth and Samantha survive the gossip, and things that go wrong as part of their own undoing. Is love strong enough and can there be a HEA.

Wonderful Read!!!

I had the privilege of reading the book ahead of time before it's release and I loved it!!! Baron Berwick and Sam were just made for each other. Grant it Berwick needed to find an Heiress for a wife and he new it could not be Sam. Unbeknownst to Berwick, Samantha was the long lost granddaughter of a wealthy and influential family!!! Berwick then tries to win her but to no avail. Berwicks mother the Baroness is ugly and brutal to Samantha and blackmails her to leave her son alone!!! You have Samantha masquerading as a boy who then also as herself, you have heat, passion, blackmail, ruination and so much more all wrapped up in a wonderfully written story!!! Can't wait for Ms. Langstons next novel!!!

This is the first book in the second series by Tom Lloyd, author of the stunning Twilight Reign series. Moon’s Artifice is certainly different than Lloyd’s previous work. While Twilight Reign was firmly based in the epic fantasy category, Moon’s Artifice is a bit harder to define. Sword and sorcery? Almost. Epic fantasy? Has that feel to it. Detective crime novel? Yes, kind of. It’s a good mixture of quite a few genres, and as someone who doesn’t honestly care about strict subgenre definitions it suits me fine.

Central to the world is the caste and House system the Empire lives by. The Imperial City is ruled by the house of the Emperor, House Sun. Each of the big houses in the Empire has their own district, in which their lesser houses are welcome. The population is also divided into the nobles and the peasants, and with civilization living tightly within this system and people being tattooed by law with their caste and house marks, escaping to a higher station seems impossible.

Narin is an Investigator, born to the lower caste and working to become a Lawbringer, the enforcers the Empire’s law on the populace. He does have a few secrets, the biggest one being an affair with a noblewoman, which is potentially life threatening to Narin, seeing as sleeping with someone elses wife is really not that a good idea, especially if said someone is noble born. You’d think Narin has enough to worry about, then the gods drop a huge problem at his feet, and it has Empire shattering consequences.

The Gods. The biggest secret that the Emperor’s family has is ascension. Mortals can become gods, if they are perfect in one part of their life. Lord Shield, Lawbringer, Pity, Duellist etc has proven their worth and been ascended to godhood. The fun thing about this pantheon is that they like to get their noses stuck into mortal affairs every now and then. And when a god notices you, it’s too late to run away. Along with the gods there are also demons who has influence on the world. I get the feeling that the gods and demons story has quite a lot more depth to it, and that should be fun exploring in later novels.

At least Narin isn’t alone in his struggles. His best friend, Enchei, supports him throughout the book. Enchei is not just there as support of filler, he has his own secret history and dark past. His immediate superior is Lawbringer Rhe, the most respected of his order with a strict sense of the law and right or wrong. I loved Rhe for his unblinking and uncompromising service to the law and empire he’s sworn to. It almost cost him his life, but he was willing to take that sacrifice to preserve the integrity of the Lawbringers, and that is heroic. Irato is a dark horse character, seeing as his actions influences the majority of the early parts in this book. He is a product of the poison, and shows clearly the dangers it poses to humanity and to the empire. Kesh is my favourite though. A girl who started out terrified, then mad, bent on revenge and at last she develops into a major player in the book. She is a damn great character, doing what she feels she must do to reach their goals. She is tenacious, bold and always ready for a brawl, even if the odds are stacked against her.

The world Lloyd built is intricate and brilliant. He has the ability to drag the gods and demons into the story, not as omnipotent beings, but more as troublemakers trying to get a head start on their fellows. Since the gods are ascended humans, seeing this human trait of selfishness in them makes them quite a lot more interesting than if they were a beard in the sky or hurling lightning at humanity.

Narin is always one step behind the conspiracy. He’s trying to catch up to a group of people who’ve had decades to plot and set things into motion. There is a sense of desperation throughout the novel as they try to unravel the mystery, and it’s mainly through hard work that they manage to get the breaks they need to bother the conspirators. No real lucky breaks are to be had to help them along, which I liked as realistic.

I loved this book. It’s fast paced, mysterious, interesting and the characters are brilliant. It’s an amazing start to a brilliant new series.

Moon's artifice

I guess cops are the next big thing in fantasy ;) Here we got Narin who is a Lawbringer, so when he "accidentally" knocks down a guy he sets out to investigate what on earth is going on. There are baddies, demons, poison and something that would rock the empire to it's core.

Narin was a good guy, sure he did not make the best of choices (one in particular), but that just made him human. And he really did love working as a Lawbringer and protecting the innocent. It was a true cat and mouse game. Luckily he had some help, very mysterious Enchei who was a tattoo artist. Kesh, a young woman on the run. Rhe, Narin's mentor, whom I really liked. And of course a strange assassin without any memories.

I think that what I liked most was that it was a world where some humans had found a way to ascend and become Gods. I would have loved to learn more. If they were really good at what they did, then they might just become the god of that, like the God Lawbringer. It was also a world that had known it's fair share of war and there empire was made up of powerful Houses who ruled.

an excellent introduction to solar PV design

This book is exactly what it says it is: an excellent introduction to solar PV design. Anyone interested in the field should read this book first. It gives a clear and concise overview of the subject, and good additional background information about the history of the technology, and the sales process.

As an engineer I particularly liked Chapter 6, which goes over in step-by-step fashion the design of a small 4.5 kW system. The serious engineering student would then go on to read the text "Photovoltaic Systems Engineering," by R. Messenger and J. Ventre. Unfortunately, that text does not follow A. Zimdahl's very clear step-by-step approach. But after going through the case study in "A Clear Guide to Solar PV Design and Installation," the student will be well prepared to handle a more detailed presentation.

My only complaint about the this book is that I wish there was a little more information on the important issues of a good installation. Just as a design checklist is included in the back of the book, an installation checklist would have been great.

In summary: I highly recommend this book.

I bought this on a whim, thinking it would supplement the (much more expensive) textbook my instructor recommended. To my surprise, I actually prefer this book. The language is clear and the diagrams/illustrations are incredibly helpful. Highly recommended.

Too broad and shallow

There was a time when it was necessary to use a lot of text to convince people to use a very expense technology like PV. This is not needed anymore, since a the majority can justify investing in a PV installation just on cost savings on electricity alone. It would have been a better book if it focussed more on actual installation risks, do's and don'ts.

A legendary figure in Californian art, Tony DeLap (born 1927) was associated with Los Angeles’ 1960s Finish Fetish school (alongside the likes of Craig Kaufman and Larry Bell), and has been a mentor to some of California’s most notable artists, including Bruce Nauman, James Turrell and John McCracken, who all studied with him. Where many artists of the Finish Fetish school eschewed the material facture of their works, DeLap has almost always chosen to construct his work himself, meticulously producing freestanding sculptures in aluminum, fiberglass, lacquer, Plexiglas, resin and molded plastics and fabrics. DeLap was included in the two shows that helped to define the Minimalist movement--Primary Structures at the Jewish Museum (1966) and American Sculpture of the Sixties at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1967)--and his work brilliantly merges the austerity of Minimalism with Op art illusionism. This volume surveys his career to date.

This is a truly beautiful book on an important contemporary artist

This is a truly beautiful book on an important contemporary artist. It charts the career of Tony Delap, who played an intricate part in the development of late-twentieth century modernism in California. Over the course of fifty-odd years, this still active artist has worked in a highly abstracted geometrical idiom, mining with great subtlety and unending variety issues of edge and spatial illusion in sculpture and painting, both in three and two dimensions. An introductory essay by distinguished art historian Barbara Rose weaves biographical material, such as the artist's life-long interest in magic, into an insightful discussion of the art, placing it into the context of developments from the 1960s and later. Even the brief preface by Douglas Dreishpoon offers astute observations about the beautiful preparatory drawings and the role they play in a rigorous and carefully meditated working process. The quality of the illustrations is unusually fine and gives a good sense of the beauty and visual interest of the work.

Eye Opening Book On Heart Disease Prevention

This book is a very good read. I have been looking for a book on heart disease that caters more for a woman. I found what I was looking for in this book. This book walks you through all of the important changes you can make to your lifestyle which will lead you to a healthier life. It is well written and easy to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking how to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Heart disease is one of the most deadly conditions in America. However, since it affects men more often than women, the symptoms are sometimes overlooked by women. This book accurately explains what the warning signs are, along with how to prevent this deadly condition. Highly recommend!

Going to see if I can return this. Unless you have been living under a rock, you already know what is included in this book. Bad grammar and poorly constructed sentences make this slopped together book difficult to read. Save your cash.
