A Strong Heroine and Great Story!

I really haven't read any historical romance novels in quite some time although I've continued to add them to my reading lists and piles. Laurel O'Donnell is an author who I've wanted to read for a very long time. I had high hopes for this book and they were met.

I quite like heroines who are feisty, and Layne is the epitome of that. I love how she was observant, quick witted, and talented in jousting and swordplay, everything a lady should not be. I also loved how she was with her brothers and the way they treated her as one of them, even though she was a girl. I loved Layne's strong sense of honor; she placed a very high value on it. Griffin I liked from the beginning as well. I guess it was more his (mostly) misguided sense of chivalry and his pre-prescribed role for females. I think he would've done much better had he listened to Layne from the beginning of the book. They were both wonderful together.

The story really impressed me. It's unique and yet still has almost everything a conventional historical romance novel has. I was hoping for more closure with Griffin's brother and his wife. I was a but taken aback when all these other family members appeared all of a sudden, but Laurel introduced them in a way my fears soon disappeared. The story has no slow points and jumps from one point to another very quickly. I read this book just as fast as I could. The mystery was really well written and kept me guessing as to who was the coward in question.

Another thing that really surprised me was the amount of emotional attachment I formed with the characters, not just Layne and Griffin, but also her brother's Cole, Frances, and Michael. I love that parts of the story were told from their points of view. It added something extra to the story. Now that I've read my first Laurel O'Donell novel, I know it won't be my last.

Lovely Romance

A very sweet romance about an unconventional lady and the knight who loved her, My Noble Knight was a fantastic historical romance. It was a lovely read and I really liked it.

Layne was a wonderful heroine. Definitely unconventional, with her tendency to disdain dresses and liking for swords. She could be a bit reckless but, overall, she was a strong and interesting character that I liked.

Griffin was great as well. He was sweet and the epitome of honorable. He could be rather oblivious about certain things. But, I thought he was a sweetie and I really liked him as well.

The romance was lovely. I thought they were very sweet together, especially with how Griffin love Layne because of her quirks, not in spite of them. I thought they were a perfect couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was totally engaged the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story and ht ending was perfect.

My Noble Knight was a lovely, sweet, delightful romance that I really liked. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to check out.

A noble knight indeed

Oh how I just loved this book -- with just a few pages in it just zinged for me! I really loved Griffin's character. He is such a honorable person, definitely one that I would want for my knight in shining armor. Also what I like about the book is how Layne's relationship with her brothers is portrayed -- how they teased her like normal siblings do and that it wasn't written with old medieval English, not that I mind that in some books, it's just flows better for me with modern English. I'm so glad that I bought this book and gave it a try, didn't regret it one bit plus the cover is lovely to look at as well.

Emotional and just plain fun

There are 2 stories in one with Buchanan's "Wind Walker", and they are both just plain fun to read. The title story is a short ode to Lovecraft (a vasty overused and cliche comparison, but hey, the man did create an entire sub-genre on his own) that reads fast and, again, is just a fun way to spend a half hour.

But it's the second story, "Everett Smiles," where Buchanan's talent really shines. The writing is powerful without crossing into forced cheese, and he gives us a protagonist we immediately give a damn about and root
for. The ending is absolutely perfect, and this is a story I will be reading again. You know, for fun.

The second story was so good that I had to go back and look to see what the first story was about! The first was alright, but that next one was really good! Yep, I'd recommend this book and author.

I really liked the “cool velvet” explanation of calm after intense pain

Wind Walker consists of three short stories; one is stand alone and the last two are linked by a character. All of them have a similar feel and theme; death, apocalyptic, cannibalism and monsters.

I found the writing style to be very dark but exceptionally descriptive, add in the clipped, direct narration of Carrie Buchanan and I kept rewinding to ensure I had heard what she said; the ewww moments were really horrifying.

The first story is Wind Walkers; a man learns he is the harbinger/catalyst for monsters to rise on a snowy mountain side in Wales. His inner monologue of fears and memories interspersed with the dialogue with his children allowed for characterisation and a connection with them as a family.

I really liked the “cool velvet” explanation of calm after intense pain. My only negative would be the alternating of PoV was a little confusing when listening to the audio version, but when read I was able to slow and repeat paragraphs.

The second two stories were linked by a character; the narrator is left alone in a shopping mall whilst the world outside is filled with monsters. I did wonder if they were all linked as the season is winter with snow and ice and both talk of a rift.

Sam the floating corpse will stay with me for a while, she was so vivid, even in death NB gave her a brilliant back story. Another negative amongst all this praise would be the use of “diapers”; clearly set in the UK why use an American word?

There is an abundance of flesh, blood and gore, eyeballs hanging and bits being cleaved or munched off. The shock value is obviously there but NB writes with such substance and palpability that even the simplest of phrases made me wince eg the eye ball stalk!

All the endings were very sorrowful and pessimistic, no happy endings here, horah for some dirty horror. Loved the gruesome, creepy unrelenting nature of these stories and cannot wait to read more from this author!

Sexy, Powerful, and Compelling Vampire Fun. What a great read!!

This book rocked! I can't wait for the next one. Characters are fun, sexy, and well developed. The banter between Christopher (main character) and the supporting characters are funny and realistic while they take you along an investigation and vampire extermination journey into the shady side of Chicago. Combat sequences are epic and you can picture perfectly the action in your mind’s eye. This author writes vampires just as violent and dark as Anne Rice meets Bram Stoker.

A fresh take on vampires!

I was turned onto this book while looking for a fresh take on fantasy/vampire and was pleasantly surprised. Couldn't stop reading and polished it off in a handful of days. The mix of action, character development and plot was spot on and I enjoyed the relationship build between Chris, his VEST team, and the atypical ‘damsel in distress’. I don’t want to ruin the cliff-hanger, but it was amazing! Book two please!!

For a debut book, this is an amazing job. Jason pulls you in from the beginning and makes you feel like you are living the experience. Sure it's about vampires, but there is just enough of the normal vampire stuff to keep you wondering where he is making this stuff up, while still having the right balance of a new twist on the old stuff.
