~ It's end of this war, and things are about to get messy and bloody.

This book picked up about two months after where the first book left off. Declan's "betrayal" left Zoey completely heart broken, however what she didn't know was Declan was tricked by the evil Succubus IAB chief, Olivia.

It will take quite a while for Declan and Zoey to finally be on the same page, I am not sure I entirely agree with Declan's reason to not to go after Zoey. I think it would've save a bunch trouble and time, if he would've just tell her what happened. Meanwhile, time is running out for Zoey, her blackouts are happening more frequently, and she might not have long before she completely loose her mind. So we are finally reach the end of this war, and things are about to get messy and bloody.

In this book we are finally learning the evil scheme of Olivia, not only she was a mad experimentalist, but she was just evil through and through. I was not sorry to see the end of her. However the process on getting to that part can be a bit painful to read, it just seem to me the story was going around in a circle. I thought the political parts were somewhat tiring to read, you see even though the Incubus are well aware of Olivia's evilness, not only no one did anything but they continue allow her to disturb the peace across all three societies. If it were not for Zoey and her Rogue Team of half-succubus, who knows how much longer will the Incubus wait to take the matter into their hands.

Overall I thought Zoey Avenger was slightly better than the first book, wasn't as messy and still packed with actions. It has emphasize a little more on Declan and Zoey's relationship, but didn't end with a cliffhanger. I wonder if this is the last book of Declan and Zoey?

I love the progression of the characters

The power dynamic in this book is fascinating. I love the progression of the characters, the battles, and certain characters/factions facing off. A lot of questions from the first book are answered in this one. Zoey is a strong female character whom any reader would love to be. Her relationship with Declan is steamy, yummy, and a great ride. The editing still needs to be fixed, but all in all this is a great read.

Excellent, suspenseful love story that reads like an action flick!!!

Lizzy does not disappoint in this follow-up to "Zoey Rogue". Zoey has really gone rogue and Team Rogue is a reality now. Zoey and her team of loyal friends have been kicking Cambion butt and taking names. The truth is out about what happens to halflings now and the ranks of Team Rogue risen from a handful to over fifty. Zoey is happy they have so many in their ranks but is struggling to fulfill her role as leader of Team Rogue and all the the financial and tactical requirements. To add to the pressure she is blacking out again and no one knows why, where, or when she will have an episode. Declan is still watching over her secretly although they are still estranged after his unwitting betrayal. After one of her blackouts, Zoey finds out her outing has caused a major hick up in her plans and made her an official prime target of both the Sucubatti and Incubus counsels. Declan is now in the position of not only trying to reconcile with Zoey and protect her, but keep is position as head enforcer. Their love is truly tested in this book. The question is will love be enough with two societies openly declaring war on Zoey. Not to mention over half of her team is being incapacitated by something unknown to the halflings and if they don't figure it our soon Cambions will be the least of their problems. In Zoey's quest to fulfill her role as leader she finds startling information about the halflings, Declan's mother, and the Cambion Sucubatti alliance. This story is filled with love, passion for what's right, overcoming odds, and suspense to keep you going. It is a definite must read, and if you haven't read "Zoey Rogue" go get it.

It does not go in depth but it is an excellent primer on adult ADHD. I found that I knew much of the information. However, if someone is new to the topic or is a family member or friend this book is great. I read it easily in one sitting.

Wonderful! Very well organized book

Wonderful! Very well organized book....nathan started with what is ADHD, what are the signs, and then what is the cure..... presented the idea in a very clear and easily understandable manner. ADHD is a serious issue in our society, and a lot of people, both adults and children are having ADHD. For some people, ADHD is a good thing, it makes them a good communicator. For some people, it is actually bad. An example would be a parent with a child going to school, and he/she has ADHD, this causes not paying attention in class, high chance of fooling around and ruining his/her academic future.

For those of you who think you have ADHD or someone closed to you have ADHD, should consider buying this book!!

As a former teacher and elementary school principal of 32 years I found the "Caring Teacher" to be an incredibly useful book for both the teacher and administrator. An essential read for ALL educators!

As a career educator and a former colleague of Mr. Jones, I highly recommend this book. Education is not what it used to be. You can't just stand up in a classroom and lecture to students and expect to reach them. Furthermore, many of today's students come from difficult family and personal situations where behaving and learning is not only something they have never had to do, it is extremely low on their priority list. When students don't know where their next meal is coming from or where they will be living next month, homework really isn't very important. However, Mr. Jones still manages to reach those kids and offer solutions for students to become successful - in and out of class. If you are a teacher (or parent) and need some tips that will benefit your methods and your outlook on education, this book is for you!

Great Book

This book shows how connections are established in the beginning and then adapted for diving into good pattern developments and follow-through for the future... sometimes "caring" doesn't manifest until down-the-road. The Caring Teacher shows true accounts of making these connections both inside and outside the classroom... The commitment of follow-through and then later results, perpetuates positive behavior and motivation...if the connection is soundly built. I believe if I had this foundation set in the beginning years of my education, then life would have been easier. Great Book!

"Why deaf children? Why resilience? Applying the increasingly popular resilience-based frameworks (e.g., Walsh, 2003) to a specific group of children, those who are deaf, would appear at first glance to be both obvious and useful. If resilience is important for children who have suffered adverse circumstances, then surely interventions that promote resilience must be important for deaf* children with limited or no access to the world of sound around them. Resilience in Deaf Children: Adaptation Through Emerging Adulthood, edited by Debra Zand and Katherine Pierce, shows that it is not that simple.

As the contributors point out, there is almost nothing prior to this collection that considers the concept of resilience with this group, making this a groundbreaking work. The book is arranged to follow the life course of deaf children and young people through infancy to emerging adulthood. The contributors, both Deaf and hearing, are leading researchers and professionals in the world of deafness.

For readers who themselves know little about childhood deafness, this collection may involve a steep learning curve in the specific issues that arise for the families of the 90 percent of deaf children who are born into hearing families with no previous experience of childhood deafness. Nevertheless, this book is worth the effort. The detailed discussions of deaf children and areas of general interest such as understanding of self, social competence, attachment, and the benefits of cultural capital raise ideas that are transferable across the boundaries of this specialty.

The editors bravely and wisely open the collection with a section of one chapter that highlights the limitations of the concept of resilience. The chapters that follow are then divided into sections tracking the life course of children and young people: Infancy and Toddlerhood, Childhood, Adolescence, and Emerging Adulthood.

The first chapter, by Young, Rogers, Green, and Daniels (colleagues at the University of Manchester) is based on a previously published literature review (Young, Green, & Rogers, 2008). This has clearly had a strong influence on the rest of the contributions, being cited by 11 of the other 14 authors. It is this chapter that sets the tone for the rest of the collection, and the challenges raised are frequently taken up by other authors. So what are these challenges? Among other questions the authors ask the following:

• What do we mean by resilience? Is it inherent traits or acquired skills? Is it adaptability to disadvantageous circumstances or challenges? Is it synonymous with achieving desired outcomes?

• If resilience is a response to risk, how is risk assessed? For example, is being deaf a risk factor, or is it the results of being deaf that create the risk?

• If resilience is achieving successful outcomes in the face of adversity, do we not have first to acknowledge that successful outcomes are socially constructed? Positive outcomes might be entirely different when they are seen from the culturally different perspectives of Deaf and hearing.

• If we accept that the ability to overcome adversity is to be found in the individual, then have we not located the responsibility for adapting with the individual rather than with a disabling and excluding society?

Many of the contributors rise to these and other challenges. Some follow the traditional notion of resilience as overcoming adversity and ask us to consider the specific context of deaf children, most of whom are raised within an entirely hearing, phonocentric world. Thus our attention is drawn to the importance of context and whether the concept of resilience can be transferred unquestioningly, in this instance, from a hearing to a deaf context.

Of particular interest is the idea that adversity is not something to be overcome by the individual but rather is the problem of a society that fails to value diversity, that does not succeed in enabling access for all to the mainstream, and that, by individualizing the problem, prioritizes a medical rather than a social model of what it means to be deaf. The obvious risk/adversity for deaf children is the lack of access to age-appropriate communication. Understanding and being understood are the cornerstones of much of human development, particularly developing a concept of self, self mastery, and theory of mind. Thus several contributors address the importance of communication―in particular, how positive interventions might be undertaken to strengthen and enhance two-way communication.

There is a subtle difference here between identifying deafness as adversity/risk and the results of deafness in a hearing world, that is, lack of access to communication as the adversity/risk. Deliberate intervention that facilitates communication and ensures access to language, signed or spoken, ameliorates potential problems.

Several contributors begin from a strengths-based rather than a deficit-based perspective. For example, Deaf parents are considered as a resource, although deaf parenting does not guarantee successful outcomes for the child (however successful outcomes are defined). Nevertheless, the skills and ways of being deaf modeled by Deaf parents may offer insights for hearing parents in honing their own parenting skills.

This collection as a whole also highlights an additional problem with seeking to understand resilience. As soon as we start to focus on one aspect of interest, for example, strategies for promoting individual success, we are in danger of losing sight of other important aspects of resilience, such as the responsibilities of society to enable resilience. One chapter can cause us to lose sight of the important insights contained in another. If the book teaches us one thing, it is the importance of not losing sight of the bigger picture and not implicitly adopting uncritically one particular understanding of resilience.

All in all, this is an intriguing and enlightening collection, inviting us to reconsider the concept of resilience. For professionals in the field of childhood deafness, this is obviously an invaluable book. However, there is plenty here that will challenge professionals in other fields to reconsider the basic concepts of risk and resilience in their own contexts and the ease with which all too often resilience becomes a property solely of the child.

Although at times a challenging read for parents and caregivers, Resilience in Deaf Children offers plenty of useful and practical thoughts and suggestions. A stimulating read, in the end, this volume raises more questions than it answers and highlights the need for more critical analysis and further research."

Dr. Zand is a clinical psychologist and Research Associate Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Medical School, Department of Psychiatry.  For the past 14 years, her work has focused on child and adolescent mental health and resilience. During this time, she has been responsible for writing, designing, and directing multiple federally funded longitudinal grants. Her most recent project focuses on fostering bonding between medically fragile, developmentally disabled young children and their caregivers. Dr. Zand has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in research methods and mental health policy, mentored graduate students and junior faculty, published in peer reviewed journals, and presented findings in local, state, and national forums. Recently, she was accepted into the American Psychological Association’s Leadership Institute for Women In Psychology.

Dr. Kathy Pierce, a clinical psychologist at Washington University’s School of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry, specializes in novel interventions for persons with treatment resistant depression.  Over the past 6 years, Dr. Pierce has worked on both industry and federally funded clinical trials, serving as a supervisor, psychometrician, treater, statistician, co-author, and/or grant writer.   Prior to working at Washington University, Dr. Pierce was the Evaluation Director for a non-profit agency providing care for AIDs patients, and co-led Missouri’s “Deaf Mental Health PAH,” a statewide deaf mental health advocacy group.

Wonderful!

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book to review and from the first pages I was hooked. I loved the zany muses, I loved the strong but emotionally insecure hero. I found the heroine's inner conflicts very believable. I was caught up in the vivid portrayal of life during the American War of Independence. Everything about this book worked and I was hanging on to my seat waiting to find out how the HEA was going to be achieved. It was, I'm pleased to say, and I was left with a lovely feel good sensation at the end. I would recommend this historical/time travel romance to anyone who enjoys great romance with a good dash of sizzle. I can't wait to see what the muses get up to next!

Failed potential

Enemy of Mine takes place during the early days of the American Revolution in New York. The author has a solid command of military history and weaponry, but fell short on most other aspects of this time period. Our heroine appears in the home of a British general, quite literally, out of thin air, dressed in a gold toga. She is disoriented, unaware where she is, how she got there and if she even has clothes to change into. And yet, within a day the H and h are madly in love and lust with each other. Within 24 hours, the h is allowed to accompany this high ranking officer everywhere he goes - to watch his troops train, to test their weaponry, to social banquets and teas. Although she has 21st century sensibilities, manners and speech, she is miraculously accepted by everyone as an aristocrat. This is the summer of 1776 in New York City, a time of divided loyalties with both the British and Continental armies facing off across the East River and no one, NO ONE asks her who her family is. Bloodlines were paramount to these people. She chats up some of the most famous, high ranking British military commanders, and they all just accept her as an aristocrat. Then things really go downhill with the numerous pages of thoughts of repetitive self doubt juxtaposed with numerous pages of lustful thoughts and graphic descriptions of what said lust was doing to their various body parts. If this had been thrown in a couple of times it would have just been boring, but I found myself yelling at my Kindle, "Not again," "I get it," "Enough, already." It seems the author thinks her readers are too dumb to remember her characters insecurities or lusting, so she continually beats us over the head with this information. I am not a prude and don't mind sex in my books - when it is well written and enhances the story. The sex scenes here are gratuitous and more mechanical than sexy. In summary, there are great storytellers who, through their writing, transport you to a time and place where you can see, feel and smell the surroundings and embrace characters of depth and intelligence. This was not one of those books.

Not the Worst or the Best

I was expecting much better than this from the reviews. I have read a lot of time travel books many of them are fairly shallow but some are quite well developed and thought out. This one was not so shallow I couldn't stand it, however, if left a lot to be desired. I found the main character, Minerva, to be very immature and not very deep. I found Will's character to be unbelievable. The sex scenes were belabored and left me wanting them to hurry up and get it over with so I could see if the book got any better. Too many subplots as well. The muses were unnecessary, and I would have liked to see a different method used for the time travel aspect. It was disappointing.

With more than 15 years of representing consumer bankruptcy clients and more than 30 years of civic volunteer work, Stokes recognized the effects and symptoms of financial illiteracy throughout the community. About the Author
My renewed passion for writing started back in 2009. I decided I wanted to write a screenplay, one that I could use to make a movie with friends and family. I'm a huge movie buff, and I've always wanted to act in and direct my own movie. So I started writing the screenplay 'N01R'. The title is still one that I think worthy of being made into a movie, but the original screenplay probably is not. Maybe someday I will revisit it. After finishing 'N01R', I felt the urge to write another screenplay. This one I would call 'The Appearance of Evil'. It is a very dark tale, based on the idea that a famous actor hires a company to fake his death. Years ago I read some sage advice: it's much easier to publish a book and make money than it is to sell a screenplay, so I turned to writing novels. My first novel, LUMINARIES, was well received. It currently sits at 4 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. I also wrote a screenplay based on LUMINARIES. My next two books I wrote under a pen name. They are the first two books in a trilogy. I've chosen not to include the information about those books for a multitude of reasons; personal and professional. My newest, SKY CHILD, is a YA Dystopian with a huge twist. The main character's gender is never revealed. I'm hoping this story resonates with readers from every walk of life, and maybe opens some eyes. When I'm not spending time writing, shooting pool, or enjoying the finer things in life, I'm spending time with my amazing fiancee, Nicole. Without her love, feedback and support, I wouldn't be able to write the stories I'm writing with such enjoyment.

Intriguing new YA fantasy novel

If you have read my top ten YA reads for 2014 (link below...along with all others) you would know that Sky Child received honorable mention. As a fan of supporting other authors trying to ‘make it’ I often troll crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter searching for writers bold enough to have a go at putting the power of publishing in the hands of supporters. Not an easy thing for a writer to do by any stretch of the imagination. Your book is your baby and to toss it out there to the fate of others is a terrifying notion -but that’s exactly what T.M. Brenner did with Sky Child.

The book sounded promising and when the project funded, I received a signed copy. It took me under a week to get through Sky Child. It can certainly be considered dystopian but dystopian on a level that thrusts the readers back to the stone age. The story follows Sam through a series of circumstances that thrust Sam (unwillingly) into a leadership role among the hunters of The Crag (the system of caves where all the survivors live -the only people on earth for all they know). It is a very human story dealing with survival, politics (among the cave dwellers), love, loss and self-discovery. Sam has adopted two ‘brothers’ and raises them as if they were his/her own children -a unique spin on the typically independent dystopian protagonist. Not only the attachment and vulnerability that comes along with it but the ambiguousness of the sex of the main character, Sam. It is an easy, quick read with a satisfying conclusion. If you haven’t heard of T.M. Brenner, you will. Sky Child is well worth a read.

Absolutely amazing book which incorporates a story which talks of a civilization after a futuristic war and it's rediscovery of our technology. I funded this book on Kickstarter and am happy it made it :). I really can't wait for the sequel!!!

I like everything about this book

I like everything about this book. The physical characteristics of this book make it a pleasure to read the type is large enough and is spaced well for those of us with not so great vision. An interesting quirk is that we do not find out the sex of the protagonist. The post-apocalyptic story is about discovery from a young adult's point of view, and rediscovery of basic societal functioning. All ages will enjoy this book as it can be viewed through the reader's lens of experience at any level. I am glad I backed this book on Kickstarter, the book is good quality, the story is wonderful, and it was delivered on time. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Si en cuanto vi que salia lo compre y en la madrugada Comence a leer hasta ahora sin terminar el dia ya termina yo, esta Muy Bonita su forma de escribir Sigue prendandose de nosotros y no soltamos o no lo suelta hasta el final. Que nos espera para el proximo y Ojala sea pronto.

Excelente continuación de la historia, donde Elle logra darse cuenta que su vida tiene mayores visos de normalidad que aquellos que ella misma esperaba. La realidad le muestra que ha adquirido fortalezas a la par que personas que la aprecian y confian en ella. Mientras ella fortalece su carácter, es Robert quien ve resquebrajarse las seguridades que hasta el momento lo hacían ver como un modelo de lo perfecto. Aunque para Elle siempre que siente que la situación es perfecta le asalta el panico de que todo pueda diluirse en el aire. Ambos tienen historias y pasados que los han marcado, el mayor esfuerzo es reconocerse como humanos, hacerse cargo de sus imperfecciones, brindando al otro la posibilidad de equivocarse sin que por ello suceda una tragedia.
Elle en un acto de valentía decide comenzar a enfrentar sus monstruos, esto la termina acercando nuevamente a Robert, aunque todavía le falta confiar y poder desnudar su alma. Robert todavía no ha dado este paso, quizá al hacerlo pueda acercarse aún mas a Elle.
Una trama excelente, donde se describen las luchas cotidianas de las personas que cargan con pasados complejos, historias familiares, responsabilidades sociales y familiares que condicionan sus decisiones y les impiden ser autenticas para disfrutar de la vida y de las emociones de la misma.
