Sci-fi with a Twist

Although I’m not much of a sci-fi fan, I read this book recently since it was recommended by a close friend. Darren James laid the story out in the most unusual way I’ve ever seen in a book. He told the story about Josh Ryan as if he was hearing it while he was writing it. Very, very clever. Darren and Josh meet by chance in a bar and hit if off really well and the next thing you know, Josh is telling this unbelievable story about being abducted by alien women and how they whisk him off to this far away planet. The crazy thing is that the story is very believable. Then, another abduction by some other aliens that have terrible plans for Josh and he is able to fight them off! There’s even a love story built in to boot. It sounds crazy but is very well written in a very clever way. I am getting a little amazed by this writer’s style since this is my second book of his. Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was informative and succinct. Just how I like it. I've always had trouble with my nails. It's been a struggle for a long time. The suggestions in this book make complete sense and am surprised are not more widely known and promoted. I like the fact that the author is not trying to sell or promote any products. She is just telling her own story, that just happens to be a story a lot of us can relate to. I am going to apply the suggestions in this book and report back in a few weeks. The stories, which were contributed by a variety of people, including playworkers, teachers, play scholars, municipal leaders, children, parents, and the author, are a delight to read and instructive of themselves; however, Brown uses the stories to blend theory and research to help make scholarly meaning of them and then consider what this means for playworkers. The book is quite readable and covers a wide range of developmental issues. The last chapter brings everything together through a discussion of compound flexibility, an intriguing concept that underscores the importance of rich play experiences throughout childhood. Although the book is a valuable resource for playworkers, I also recommend it to teachers, administrators, and elected officials who are concerned with optimizing children's lives and the longterm health of our families and communities.

Five breathtaking stars.

I adored The beautiful Dead (book 1) and it easily went down as one of my favorite books of all time. Book two, however, may have just surpassed even that.

The story is a continuation from book one, beginning several weeks or so after book one ended. It's filled with new characters that you'll both love and hate, old characters that I still loved and still hated and then old characters which were just so much more than they began as.

There's love, lust, fighting, Undead, Warlocks, humans, and so many mysteries that all wrap up nicely at the end. I cried, I laughed, I found myself on several occasions just staring into space daydreaming about poor Winter's predicament. But more often than not, I was just grinning at the playful banter between the characters and the relationships I could see building.

Daryl has such a beautiful and poetic with way words, it leaves me quite breathless at time.
Seriously, dude has so much talent, it's scary!
He writes like silk, the words just slipping through your imagination and painting a vivid picture of desolate beautiful bleakness that drags you into the story and doesn't let go until you turn the last page.
And when you do...when you reach that last page...DAMNNNNN, what a freaking ending!

So yeah, it's a zombie book, but it's not, and yeah, it's an apocalyptic book, but then again, it's not, and yeah, it's romance, but again, it's not.

I love this series, and I can't wait for the, no doubt, epic conclusion!

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book killed me. Not once, but at least three times. It's hard to keep track after two deaths.

I could not put this book down, and I tried. But I couldn't sleep not knowing what was going to happen. I finished it around 3 am, knowing full well I needed to be up at 7:30. I figured once it was over I'd be okay, but I wasn't! I couldn't sleep after it was over. I kept replaying certain scenes... especially the ones at the end. I am functioning on 3 hours of sleep currently.

I cried once. Laughed many more times. Absolutely loved this book. It was better than the first, and that's saying a lot.

I didn’t think it was possible but Dead of Winter is even better than The Beautiful Dead. Crazy, right? Something you’ve got to read to believe because TBD is one hell of a fantastical read.
Winter is an Undead dead girl. She lives behind the walls of Trenton. A city once solely occupied by Undead that now houses Breathing ones. Living, breathing, humans with heartbeats. There’s an uneasy truce between the two groups. The humans have little trust in the Undead. They are running low on food for the humans though and together they seek out help from their closest neighbors. But a storm is brewing on the horizons of the city of Trenton in the shape of flame and all hell breaks loose.
Winter takes her friends, both living and Undead, on her journey filled with bravery, courage, heartbreaking loss and, last but definitely not least, love.
I cannot wait for the last installment in this trilogy. With the way these books are going it’s bound to be epic and surpass even the first two.
**On a side note, the last few chapters of this book killed to read. I strongly suggest you get yourself a box of tissues before you start.

As a child, Kathleen grew up believing in fairy tales, in magic spells and wishing wells. She loves how those fairy tales can transport one from a moment of despair to a moment of hope and love.

That is her desire in writing romantic tales, that the readers can find solace and comfort in her writings, when they are able to find an emotional connection with the characters in the stories.

Kathleen often adds in different flavor into her stories, such as creating a high drama with exciting twists and turns, with excitement and intense moments in the plot or a suspense thriller with a romantic twist. Occasionally, Kathleen likes to bring her readers to a paranormal experience weaved with the sweetness in romance. Yet at the end of all her story-telling, there is always a 'Happy ever after' ending. This coincides with her belief that in this current world we are living in, there is a great need of giving hope and reinstating that belief of love in the many hearts of people.

`How one's decision ends in a mysterious twist'

Kelly Kathleen is beginning a new series of stories she calls CHANCES TAKEN: A ROMANTIC DRAMA SERIES OF MFM ROMANCE AND SUSPENSE ROMANCE THRILLERS. This first episode - `The Encounter' - shows much promise, filling all the prerequisites of designated series heading - romance, potential male/female/male encounters, suspense, thriller and lot of sexual overtones.

Cicely is a successful bank manager, a somewhat mild mannered professional woman, with a live-in lover Mike, a trial attorney. Cicely's childhood was influenced by the loss of her mother and father when she was very young she grew up fending for herself. `I was a very good student, but underneath I smoked, drank heavily and hung out with a bad crowd. My hair was not the golden blond that it is today, but instead a purple and red streaked punkish look that made me feel unique and one of a kind.'

She met Mike in college as friends but after college the friendship bloomed into a satisfying physical and emotional relationship. Now with Cicely's success in her career and Mike's deep involvement with his law career the spark is diminished. Cicely drives to work one morning, accidentally hits a scruffy wounded man (Chance Steadman) after hearing on the radio that a dangerous man was on the loose. Chance is seriously wounded with a gunshot and Cicely starts to take him to a hospital but instead sidesteps the hospital for a stopover at the home of her nurse friend Tina, who had served in Iraq, to mend Chance's wounds. Fearful of taking this semi-conscious man who mentions the fearful words `Trojan Horse is coming' to the hospital, Cicely takes Chance home, hiding him in the basement so that Mike won't discover him. Mike arrives home, two strange men appear at the door looking for Chance, leave, and Mike and Cecily continue their decision to hide the incident (Mike doesn't known Chance is hiding in the basement). Chance, who confesses he is an innocent victim of some sort of conspiracy connected to the word Trojan Horse, is safe in Cicely's care until he is ready to leave.
The twists Kelly Kathleen places on this well designed suspense story are what make the story different. Cicely is sexually oriented, finds the lust with Mike diminishing, is immediately attracted to the well muscled hunk of a man that Chance presents, fantasizes about sex with him, stirs Mike's waning interest by wearing sensual clothing - hungry to satisfy her needs stirred by the encounter with Chance - and manages to turn to self gratification to overcame her temptation. Then the story ends....many emotional and physical elements just waiting to commence.

The plot is a sound one and different enough with the chances it takes (with Chance!) to make it border on incredible. The author seems more interested in meticulously describing the physical attributes of her characters as stimulants to sexual situations (even neighbors and friends are described according to their endowments) than in solid backgrounds, but that is a means to an end in MFM romantic thrillers. The story works well and certainly is a fine teaser for a continued series on lusty romantic dramas. Grady Harp, October 14

Can't wait for the next one

Kelly Kathleen’s The Encounter is a fast paced romance with a hint of thriller and mystery to make things a lot more interesting. The book begins on a typical day for the main character, Cecilly. As she preps for a big day at the office she reflects on her life and her current relationship. These reflections allow the audience to get into the characters train of thought which makes it fun to analyze why she does some of the things she does.
On an average day Cecily would be in the wrong, or right, place just in time to have her life turned upside down. With a few mixed feelings, a little romance, and a lot of danger Cecily would be on an adventure that even she couldn’t make heads or tails of! The story really makes you want to know what’s going happen next with every turn of the page.
The book in itself is a really fast read. The stream of conscious of the main character breezes past and explains a lot about the way she acts. However, there’s just some things that were hard to understand about her, but they may unravel in the upcoming books.
One of the main elements is struggling with a stale relationship. Cecilly is struggling to stay with her boyfriend who is always busy, but she has moments of clarity where she knows she loves him and remembers all the small reasons why she does. However, the new attraction is just too much, perhaps because of the lack of attention she’s been receiving.
This book also builds up a lot about the mystery man. For instance, he keeps yelling Trojan Horse!, needs to call someone on the phone and has some major memory lapses. The cliff hanger ending will really make you long for book two as well!
My only problem was some of the writing could have been edited a bit better, but that’s only a small detail.

Another book with no ending.Will not read any more from this author.Seems to just want you to have to buy the next book to get the ending.Sorry was very disappointed.And what I read was not even that good.

You will not be disappointed.

The best one yet! I couldn't get enough of Learn to Love Me, was chilled by Best Served Bloody, fell in love with Parting Burden, and I was absolutely thrilled to my core by Medium Rare. This collection has something for everyone inside. The quick wit, fast paced, hair raising, and lovely all reside between the covers.

For me, Medium Rare is the pick of the crop so far. I couldn't stop reading and devoured it in one sitting. Mrs. MacDughlas's words pulled me in and held on tight as I dove into the pages. Her wonderful descriptions bring the world of Cat, Mel, and the others to life in a way that makes you want to know these characters deeply.

Great novella to curl up with when you want something otherworldly.

Anyone, anywhere who is looking for a good quick and enticing read should pick up A Medium Rare. It is part of a series that I have not yet read any other books from. It did not matter, the book works very well as a stand alone but has strong ties to its predecessor: Best Served Bloody, which I now very much want to dig into. It was a very relate-able read, with enough of a touch of paranormal to keep it interesting. I felt very much a part of their group, which left me feeling nostalgic about my Wiccan teenage years.

While reading this novella, I felt at peace, on the edge of my seat, happy, sad and fearful; sometimes all at once. I couldn't stop myself from talking to the author every time I got excited about something. I was able to predict what was going to happen, but there were a lot of little hidden surprises. This made me feel as though I was intelligent but still excited to see how it all unfolded.

Well, well, well, Sinead has done it again! She has captured my attention in this new and enchanting story that has left me in awe and shocked all at one time. WOW is the only expression that I have at this moment. This author has once again used her talented writing skills and made another remarkable and unforgettable story that kept me wanting to read more from beginning to end. It also ties into Best Served Bloody and I just love how the two books come together. This fabulous story will keep you in shock, suspense, and fully wowed all at the same time. I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend this story to adults who love a good Paranormal Ghost Story. Thank you, Sin, for another amazing story!!

When KATE HARRIS moves to Long Beach California, she hopes to finally settle in her new home. She longs to have friends and fantasises about meeting the guy of her dreams. But after one dangerous night, Kate finds herself obsessing over a mysterious stranger who saves her life, and she embarks on a quest to uncover his identity. But her journey ends when she discovers her gorgeous neighbour, JACK JONES, who proves to be the welcoming distraction she needs.

Kate is deeply intrigued by Jack, and begins to feel differently when she’s in his company. She is flattered by the attention he showers her with and enjoys her newfound confidence. And even though their relationship symbolises young love, Kate soon realizes that Jack is anything but normal.

When Jack is forced to reveal his many secrets, including the curse inflicted upon him by his twin brother, Sebastian, Kate begins questioning what is real and what is just a mere illusion.

Jack refuses to make peace with his brother, and warns Kate to stay away from him. But Kate is drawn to Sebastian, and if she betrays Jack, the consequences of her actions will lead to devastation for them all.

Great book!

I received this eBook from the lovely author herself and thank her for allowing me to read her book in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book and really like the idea of the plot. The plot was new and different but the characters fell a little flat for me. Kate got on my nerves most of the time. She didn't have much of a backbone and let Jack push her around a lot. I liked Jack in the beginning but then he seemed to always be apologizing for something and he was kind of just a dirt bag. He didn't treat Kate the way she should have been treated and I'm sure she stayed with him in the beginning because of the curse. And then Sebastian comes back to town.. I really liked Sebastion and loved his dark hair, motorcycle riding, quiet and shy attitude. He's my kind of guy! Loved him and wanted more of Seb! He could sing to me all he wants! Yumm! ;)
The book had me wanting to read more and want to know what happened with them. It kept me interested. At times I felt the book dragged a bit and a little too much description that I found myself scanning to get through it. Things felt repeated at times as well but I did still like this book. I give this book 3/5 stars. I like this book so go buy a copy! You don't want to miss out!

Supernatural romance at its best

Meet Kate, a young woman new to Long Beach. She's sweet, smart and drawn to her handsome new neighbor, Jack. But Jack comes with a secret... and a dark twin brother. "Enigma" is an appropriate title for this supernatural romance. Though this is a good book for all romance readers, I would highly recommend it for fans of Vampire Diaries and Twilight books. With its intriguing characters and naughty allure, Jack, Kate & Sebastian reminded me of the Stefan-Damon-Elena love triangle. Great read!

This was OK. I pressed on and read to the end even though I did want to give up at about 14%. This was a bit too 'young' for me.
